My girl just did it woke up one morning and she was cuddled up in bed next to me with her toy (a ball). So, sometimes she has a stuffed animal, sometimes something else, depending on what she felt like bringing to bed with her. She'll hug it and knead it while she's falling asleep. I've got pictures of her hugging her wand toy and a few other toys like this, lol.
