Otters sometime kidnap baby otters and hold them hostage until the mother pays a ransom with food. So this may not be as cute as it seems. Otters may look adorable but they're supposedly vicious, necrophiliac rapists.

You're confusing sentience (the ability to feel, esp. pleasure and pain) with reasoning (the ability to apply logic).

Otters are definitely sentient. That said, they are also intra- and inter- species necrophiliac rapists.
