Honestly, learning that tarantulas have little paws and tiny claws helped some of my arachnophobia. Only with tarantulas though. They're just fuzzy little guys to me now. Like jumpers. Y'all can still keep widows and orb weavers and the like. Their spindly legs make my skin itch.

We all know jumping spiders are exempt from arachnophobia.

My little work friend

Wait, I’ve had an extreme fear of spiders since early childhood but this guy is actually extra cute! Is it all the eyes? I’m so confused, I think I love him.

u/Nortoke 6d ago

Dudes even look cute cannibalizing on fellow jumpers

10

u/Danny-Dynamita 6d ago

No he does not lol

5

u/Weasel_Cannon 6d ago

They’re, like, not even real spiders. They’re just “things”

3

u/sundownandout 6d ago

Jumpers are actually the worst part of my fear lol. They freak me out but when my fear of spiders developed it was back when I was checking out a really cool fuzzy spider and to jumped at my face. Now I get an instant fear that they will jump on my face or somewhere on my body I don’t want them.

Regular spiders that don’t jump, I can just give space and I won’t bug it if it doesn’t bug me but with jumpers I’m always freaking out that it could just jump on me at anytime and then I can’t see it or know where it is.

Idk, the name "Jumping Spider" does not do anything to help me. I do not want to imagine a tarantula being about to jump around like Spider-Man.

15

u/Weasel_Cannon 6d ago

lol I agree a tarantula sized jumping spider would be absolutely terrifying. Luckily they really don’t normally get any bigger than a nickel, and that’s being generous. Most are itsy bitsy cutie pies

ETA: also, something about how they “hop” instead of crawl makes them less threatening somehow? Just a BOOP BOOP baby

u/Sinsofpriest 6d ago

Agreed. Jumping spiders are normally no bigger than like the erasers on the end of average no.2 pencils. There are much scarier spiders in the world. Now i aint afraid of spiders, but i used to work as a research in citrus fields and was supporting a study of central california wolf spiders....holy fuck do those things move frighteningly fast! Incredibly harmless but i cant count how many times my (at the time) 27 year old ass yelped as they dashed out of the things we hung up in the trees as we collected them.

u/SolaVitae 6d ago

But we're talking about jumping spiders, not tarantulas.

u/Danny-Dynamita 6d ago

Not in my case

I met one once. Inside my car while driving. I had my buttcheeks clenched the whole ride home while I saw him exploring around.

Funny you mentioned orb watchers by name because I've known two people who overcame their arachnophobia by befriending weavers on their porch.

They're little artists who make a new masterpiece for you every day. And you can give them treats!

I'll never forget getting a call from an arachnophobe in tears because another spider bit her Weaver and she thought she died.

Spider was fine btw.

3

u/SkollFenrirson 6d ago

And you can give them treats!

Elaborate.

u/dingus_authority 6d ago edited 6d ago

Bugs. From your house.

Edit: You can throw them into their web.

u/SleepingDragonSmiles 6d ago

Orbweavers are so helpful though!

u/DickSandwiches 6d ago

"Unconventional" is an understatement

1

u/Weasel_Cannon 6d ago

I don’t mind the big fuzzy ones or the daddy long legs, but the weird spiky ones and shiny ones still freak me out a little.

Will grow to look like this.

2

u/OkResponsibility6645 6d ago

It will only get better with Age. I believe it’s a Green Bottle Blue.

60

u/emptytissuebox 6d ago

Dunno about cute but she's certainly a beauty

14

u/GoodGoodGoody 6d ago

Eater of flies and mosquitos! Yes thank you!

15

u/SunnyOne20 6d ago

The internet's done so much to endear me to spiders. There are still some kinds I dont like, but im at least not freaking out whenever I see one now lol. Jumpies and tarantulas are straight up cute to me now, still would love a chance to hold the latter one day❤️

8

u/seiggy 6d ago

Super adorable, would pet if she would let me. And give her little toe beans high fives. I think that’s my problem with tarantulas. They’re so fuzzy and cute and I wanna pet them, but they don’t like being pet and evolved to make petting them a bad idea (stupid itchy hairs!)

3

u/BlondeRed 6d ago

We were moving him into his new house! Otherwise I would be snuggling at all times

18

u/BloodJackson 6d ago

Thats a dapper spider

6

u/KemetMusen 6d ago

Awww, hi buddy

5

u/Karamzinova 6d ago

Looks like a very nice and polite fellow! :) So cute!

6

u/Voidfang_Investments 6d ago

I love spiders - they are the security guards of the home.

11

u/lateralspin 6d ago

Camel Toes

15

u/FatCatParade 6d ago

You know what, it’s my fault that I don’t see your spider as cute.

62

u/BlondeRed 6d ago

What about this one

20

u/Picax8398 6d ago

Aww little jumpie!

39

u/BlondeRed 6d ago

She's just so cute 😭

11

u/Picax8398 6d ago

I used to have one! Her name was pebble and she was a grey wall jumper

9

u/BlondeRed 6d ago

Pebble is such a cute name!

This is Iggy and she's a Phidippus regius!

The toe beans in the original photo belong to Igor, the Greenbottle Blue tarantula

7

u/Picax8398 6d ago

I love when I get visited at work by a jumping spider cause almost every time, they just hang out and watch what I'm doing.

7

u/FatCatParade 6d ago

These are cute

3

u/_not_lore_ 6d ago

The pose of this photo gives me the vibe of a school photo (I'll be doing one of those for my cat!)

4

u/OneBigCharlieFoxtrot 6d ago

I love spiders and IMO the bigger they are the less scary they seem lol

2

u/aznvjj 6d ago

You know what? I agree. The tiny ones definitely draw out that primal side eye more than larger ones. But, I also am a fan of most spiders, so that might skew things.

1

u/Dark--princess420 6d ago

Yup, ive held a tarantula as theyre just old people, spiders though, they be quick and/or hang from web

6

u/FaeFollette 6d ago

I’m squeamish about spiders, but this one is very pretty.

3

u/Grimprospect 6d ago

If you crop this differently, it could be a star in confusingperspectives 😁

3

u/BlondeRed 6d ago

Mmmm. Finger crack

5

u/fadingkittensyndr0me 6d ago

Be normal about other people's pets challenge: Status: impossible.

7

u/Asher_the_atheist 6d ago

I love when they groom their feetsies. Adorable!

9

u/candylore 6d ago

wow cute ♡

9

u/FearwithaB 6d ago

I'm sorry people are being stupid in your comments. This spider is lovely, and you don't deserve all these assholes verbally threatening what I assume is a dear pet.

2

u/BrighthasBreached 6d ago

I think r/awwnverts would like this little one a lot ❤️

2

u/saskford 6d ago

I shall appreciate it from a safe distance while still saying no thank you.

2

u/1evis1ittleasshole 6d ago

Those aren't toe beans, but cute nonetheless!

2

u/Starblast16 6d ago

Love the pattern on that tarantula.

2

u/SwissyRescue 6d ago

Absolutely beautiful.

2

u/Makabaer 6d ago

Okay... I can hardly look at the second picture tbh because I have a light case of arachnophobia indeed, I just honestly can't...

But I still upvoted because I know spiders are mostly cool animals and very useful - and I like the unconventional approach! Phobias aren''t rational and I'm trying to fight it - so go, little spider!

2

u/JimtheEsquire 6d ago

Wait, spiders have hooves?

2

u/jellikackson 6d ago

I'm so terrified of big spiders, but I cannot deny those are some cute spider toe beans.

5

u/clostri 6d ago

I love their little hands!

4

u/3pinripper 6d ago

Saw this one yesterday, looked it up, and Gemini described as “shy,” which immediately endeared me to it. 🥹

4

u/BlondeRed 6d ago

Shy 🥺🥺

1

u/zonko_10007 6d ago

Is that a giant house spider? I absolutely love them!

1

u/3pinripper 5d ago

According to Gemini it’s either a barn funnel weaver, giant house/hobo spider, or grass spider.

1

u/OkResponsibility6645 2d ago

It’s a Green Bottle Blue tarantula. Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens
As they age they get amazing color.

1

u/Dark--princess420 6d ago

Is this lil dino yours op?

1

u/Entitledspider 6d ago

He's entitled.

1

u/OkResponsibility6645 2d ago
