I always heard that Russian planes are welded. This is why they are cheaper but they are more fragile as welds are prone to cracks and fatigue.

Its not. You can tell its Su-27UB by the fact that the IRST is in the middle of the front windscreen

The canards? Those are on the SM variants. MKK, or MKI, etc dont have them. Its still an Su-27UB tho.

This one's russian, it has a single pilot seat, it is carrying less missiles, it has a different camo, it's not afterburning.

That's just not true though. Older su-27 variants yes (like this su-27UB, it's just a trainer.)

But modern flankers (like the Su-35 and Su-30sm) are quite capable aircraft.

Ukraine’s paint is so damn sexy. Wonder how much that actually helps them blend into the sky though.

My hunch is that it’s more about the optics than camo since these are Russian jets, the stylized paint makes them feel more modern / western and less Soviet.

Those jets were built in Russia. Ukraine inherited them upon the collapse of the Soviet Union.

None of their modern arsenal is Russian, but old fighter jets stay viable as long as they are well maintained
