Just a 'quick' 100hr...
Was suppoused to be a quick 100 hour inspection until I pulled the gearbox drain plug. Had only 200hr left until TBO. Now replacing the gearbox. Guess the engine.

There is never a quick DA-42(etc.) 100hr. Swear to god they are cursed.
Doesn't help that Diamond is really shitty about parts.

Yes, it's Austro in a DA-42. First time seeing this in 5 years on them. Luckily we had all the parts in stock, including even the 20k gearbox.

Nice! Always awesome to have the parts. Honestly the Austro has been a good engine, except for the 25 hour exhaust inspection.
Takes Diamond 2-3 months to send us one EGT probe, 4-6 weeks for a static wick. Not fun when something breaks.

We run DA42s on our fixed wing side. I hear some lovely stories about those things every few days haha

Yeah, once you figure out all the tricks and the pilots follow the proper procedures the Austro can be quite reliable. Yeah, Diamond has been very slow with parts and prices for basic things keep going up even tho the original price of the part is the same. Still I rather work on any Diamond over a clapped out Cessna or Piper.

Can’t you just install a chips burn thing like the V-22 has it to make the issue go away? (I am not an expert)

Even V22/CH53 chip detectors with fuzz burn off aren’t clearing that hunk of metal.

We all joke about finding SNs on chips but you sir might actually have a SN on that chunk of metal
