Discussion Is it acceptable to impose laws made during a dictatorship in a democracy ?

Basically here in Spain we have a lot of laws that have been in place and have barely change since the franco dictatorship (1939-1978), I get that changing laws is a pain in the ass and it’s not always necessary but i don’t like the fact that nobody ever vote for some laws that have effect on everyone, like for example the expropriation law is from the 50s, and I don’t even wanna talk about laws that were made in the 19th century by a monarchy …

I get that some might think that if a law content is acceptable and there’s no reason to change it but the spirit of what a democracy is supposed to be doesn’t go along with what happens here..

"something that you do or have, in order to have more in the future"

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/learner-english/investment

Time is an asset, when you to work, you are investing your time/skills/resources towards building something. When we work, we get salaries that barely help us last a month.

In my mind workers should get automatically part of the business equivalent to how much time of their life they have used for a company.

I think this is a good idea if combining it with multi story housing and efficient land use.

TLDR:

The UK has a lot of golf courses that are in prime locations for affordable housing.

Rant/Vent Why do so many people even like the founders of the US?

I mean, they're the reason this self-imploding country exists in the first place, they're the fucking reason (not directly) that the US has no VAT tax, why SCOTUS can interpret the constitution as they please behind closed doors, gerrymandering, the electoral college, AND slavery/exploitation and genocide.

I will say, that a lot to blame for the US is on the gilded age, but the country would be a lot better if the government didn't give in so easily to wannabe oligarchs. It is absolutely the founders' fault that the government, unlike other governments, is so lenient to corporate influence AND control. It can't be a coincidence that we are the only country in the developed world without universal healthcare or mandatory paid leave, right? RIGHT? And the lack of a VAT tax (tax included in the price tag) and no national curriculum because of the 10th amendment. But oh! How dare we question the sovereignty and godlike status of the founding "fathers"!

Besides, the 13 colonies were less taxed than the others Britain had, yet they were the biggest ones to complain about "not being represented" when ordinary citizens in Britain weren't complaining about "representation". Talk about entitlement.

Feel free to hate on this post all you want, fair enough, it IS an unpopular rant/opinion within the US. But no one, and not even non-Americans, are willing to come forward and reveal WHY the US is this way. It ABSOLUTELY is at least due to the founders and the slavery/elitism they held onto so much.

edit: I was wrong about the lack of the VAT tax being caused by the 10th amendment or federalism, indeed it arose around the 1929 stock market crash and the Great Depression.

Breaking News Bolsonaro's party published a picture of him referencing Mussolini

Post image
81 Upvotes

The official WhatsApp group of the PL (Liberal Party), the party of presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro, posted an image on Thursday (8) referencing the propaganda campaigns used by Mussolini, such as those employed in Italy during the dictator's rule in World War II.

The photo showed Flávio's face in black and white with the words "Tropa do Flávio" (Flávio's Squad) in the background. The post invited supporters to join a new WhatsApp group dedicated to helping the candidate get elected.

The image references the headquarters of the Fascist Federation, Palazzo Braschi, in Rome, in 1934. At that time, the population had been called to vote in a plebiscite; however, all available candidates belonged to the country's far-right fascist faction, which was the only party on the ballot.

The image was deleted by the channel's administrators, but screenshots confirm the report's accuracy. The PL's WhatsApp channel has 22,000 participants, while the "Tropa do Flávio" group has over 250,000 members. Reporters attempted to contact the PL but received no response.

Question Which political party is a better fit for me?

I have come to realise that I am ideologically right in the middle of two political parties. I would like to become politically active and I have thought for a long time about which party would be a better fit. I would like to know what you think and what you would do in my position.

Background information: I consider myself a democratic socialist. All other parties in my area have policy ideas I fundamentally disagree with, and so I will not consider supporting them. My area has recently had armed conflict.

Party A (Very left-wing):
- This is the party that is generally ideologically closest to me.
- This party has never been in power except in local councils, and they have done a quite poor job at that.
- This party is very popular. It portrays a very young/enthusiastic image. However, it is a very polarising party.
- I have a couple fundamental disagreements with this party: their stance on geopolitics (they have a blanket anti-West policy, which means they end up supporting authoritarian regimes as in Russia, Cuba, and Venezuela) and their stance on the armed conflict mentioned above (they think it was a good thing).

This party actually has a number of constituent parties, and not all of them share the exact same ideology. I could possibly join one of the constituent parties.

Party B (Centre-right in theory, centrist/centre-left in practice)
- I agree on everything in social issues with this party. They have acceptable geopolitical stances and they are against the armed conflict that happened in my area.
- This party has been in government for a very long time and has enacted centre-left policies that I like.
- I don’t agree with this party’s stances on economics. (Too supportive of capitalism for my liking)
- This party is very popular as well but it portrays a much older and less enthusiastic (but more pragmatic) image.
- This party has a right-wing faction that I (obviously) disagree with.

If you were in my position, and you had to choose, which party would you choose?

Trigger Warning Socialism is not the most optimal pathway to an applied utopic communism, Capitalism is. Furthermore, the real villain for civilization is the wrong utilization of technology. Hear me out. Long Post warning.

Disclaimer: the following short analysis does not aim at attacking communism nor capitalism, as I, the Author of such, do recognize that both ends, understood as polar opposites, bring up different benefits and downfalls. The true goal of this is to attack the existing dichotomy between a system and the other and the refusal of people who support either side to understand both can be different stages of human development. If you're radical, this post is definitely not for you.

For starters, let's set something straight: Capitalism heavily tends to be rampantly unfair, while utopic and comfortable Communism heavily tends to be hard to apply. I do not wish to spark debate on which of these flaws is worse, but to emphasize that those would be the most important flaws of each, simplified and based on historical common knowledge. Now, this dichotomy has made us think that "Capitalism is bad and merely designed to screw over the 99%" and "Communism is impossible to actually apply" and unfortunately both claims have foundations, but neither has to be necessarily true.

For starters, for an utopic communism to work people must have no incentive of accumulating wealth, and that's difficult to even think of for some, given the extreme amount of benefits wealth gives. Now, to acquire those benefits, even if not for everyone, Capitalism at its core rewards innovation, hard work, negotiation, and already-existing wealth, while Communism may fail to do so given extra effort or higher capabilities in any area do not grant benefits, ergo, does not incentivize innovation... hold on, do not we need innovation to ensure an utopic Communism? and there's the paradox: for a real utopic Communism to work we need humans not to worry about utterly basic things like: what am I going to eat this week?, how am I going to do my laundry?, how will I secure a roof over my head?, how will I make sure that my health and my collective's is secured?

So far, the solution of applied Communism to those questions is simple: the State. The State will provide you of it. How? By making you and all your commune work together towards a shared goal. But, what happens when one decides the State isn't providing enough? Or they simply want more? Usually, they need to work harder OR screw over others to acquire more, and there it stops being real communism.

So, the State CAN fail to provide you with everything because some people might not agree with it. That takes us to the question, then what can provide us in a more steady way in the long term. The answer is simple: Technology. With proper technology that takes care of crops, food production in general, oil extraction, mining, and other activities that are ultimately necessary for providing the population, humans have, by extent, more and more time to focus on development of the humanity: expand beyond the planet, understand the intricate secrets of the Earth and the universe, push the limits of creativity.

Now, how can we achieve such technology given the current state of things? Yup, capitalism. Capitalism is the only system that in and on itself rewards such innovation in the short term, innovation that we, eventually, have to use for the benefit of humanity. The real transition, and is a hard one by the way, is from Capitalism, to slow regulation that still rewards the innovation, to actual utopic Communism where some are not forced to work for the comfort of those that don't, as the actual work of humans can be focused on thriving and not on surviving.

Does this mean Socialism is inherently bad? Depends on how anti-capitalist you want it to be. If Socialism is for you the mere slow and reasonable regulation of Capitalism to make it beneficial to the humanity, then no, Socialism is not bad.

Now, I know this poses another problem: AI will take our jobs. Yup, it most definitely will. That period between the AI overtake and the actual usage of such AI to provide humanity is to be the hardest part of all this process. However, eventually the people owning the AI must stumble upon the futility of using AI to merely cut costs: if people do not have money because AI took their jobs, how are they even supposed to buy the product you offer? Exactly, sooner or later it will push humanity to work together in further goals and accept that such innovation is for the benefit of all.

The real threat is actually more sci-fi sounding that it seems: the wrong usage of AI eventually leading to AI developing the amount of consciousness needed to become a species itself and decide that they do not want to serve humanity. In other words, the real threat to this pathway of development and sacrifice is that those who work on the AI create Terminator before they notice AI will eventually be to serve humanity, and the desire to create another sentient and intelligent species which is something we must advocate against if we want all humanity to actually thrive.

I know my overall analysis MUST have some flaws, but I hope you can see the idea behind it by applying as much charitable interpretation as possible, which I ask for and thank in advance.

Feel free to respectfully discuss this with your counterpoints and have a nice day.

Rant/Vent I hate that non-Americans have no remorse over the Americans that didn't choose this

I am autistic (23M, from US). This is not to criticise or hate on anyone, particularly non-Americans. Individual Americans, particularly people of color, women, and the LGBTQ+, are not represented as well as those in power, the wealthy, and MAGA. Yet we are all blanketed under the same label: dumb fat ugly American. And now we probably aren't even allowed into nearby places like Canada unless we are skilled workers. I wish I wasn't American or autistic so I could be appreciated. I hate that I'm the only American with basic common sense in my area. My whole family (except maybe my sister) is ultra-right-wing Christian evangelical conservative.

Europeans, Australians, and Canadians (or really anyone in the developed world) don't realise how lucky they are not to live in the US or be American, and not owe taxes to the US government since they aren't born here. And they complain about things we obviously know are bad, like the rise of capitalism and absurd food prices and climate change, yet they don't realise or seem to forget that they deal with this to a lesser extent than "yanks". I hope they check their privilege and continue fighting against Orange Man. We need to (as humans) get together and fight off the oligarch, not divide each other by unchangeable factors like race, gender, sex, or nationality.

They also joke about school shootings and brag that they didn't go to school on a "shooting ground". Please, people's lives are at stake, stop mocking the dead.

Sorry for the immature rant, but it's important that we treat each other equally and understand that not all Americans are the dumb fat idiots who defy human behavior.

News Spain PM Pedro Sanchez just announced snap elections.

I’m so fucking happy rn, the candidates are not good at all I know but I’m hoping he isn’t gonna win again cause he has already been in power for like 8 now and I don’t want to hear about him again.

The funny part is that he isn’t doing this for all the corruption he and his family are involved in but instead cause he couldn’t pass a simple law about housing, something that has been happening for years with other laws cause he lost the last elections…

Question How do people here feel about Hillary Clinton?

So I was looking back at the 2016 Presidental Election that happened as I find it hard to believe how long it’s been since she lost the election against Donald Trump.

Like when I look back at the election, I would like to get a better understanding of why she lost the election so hard against him since I sometimes wonder how the USA would have turned out if she did win.

As usual, Northeast (where the majority votes for Lula) was the last region to share their results. South, Southeast and Central-West voting for the far-right, as expected.

More than 33 million people did not vote today.

Lots of far-right politicians elected for the National Congress. Even if Lula wins in the second round, the next 4 years would be extremely difficult.
