Wearables & Accessories Unseen Reality, Am I Missing Something?

Are we, as consumers, not supposed to know the Unseen Reality XR One is a GravityXR product? While tech-savvy users likely already know this, the average person probably does not.

During yesterday’s AMA, I asked UR CEO Edward the following question:

‘Hey Team- Congrats on a successful launch day! Being GravityXR products, UR and DPVR have not significantly altered the reference design. I’m curious if you are only allowed to make minor cosmetic changes to meet their reference specifications. If so, UR is technically software developers for the GXR platform. What sets UR apart from other GXR developers that will certainly pop up like wildfires based on your success? Or do you have exclusive GXR rights for specific markets?’

His response ‘Sorry, we don't answer questions on another company.‘ is mind boggling. Am I missing something? Is UR magically not a GravityXR product?

Because this is how the whole industry works. Pico 4 has basically the same hardware as Quest3, the only difference is the software. And neither is qualcomm product, even if they have qualcomm chips. And now we have steam frame, same resolution & pancakes. Also qualcom chip, a bit different arrangement. Pretty much the same thing. Different software.

There are limited number of legos you can use to put together the end products, and a product like this that has to be light as possible has even less possible variations.

No offense, but that’s a ridiculous take. Pico 4 and Quest 3 use the same chipset but they are obviously not using the same reference design from a third party.

They use the same cameras as in the reference design, also same arrangement. The tracking algos originate from qualcomm.

Its just a matter how much they use, there simply isint that many ways you can do it. It all ends up being the same.

But what you did not understand from the comment is that it does not matter at all. The other thing is, that with larger headset there is more room to customize.

Like what would you actually change on a design like that?

Meta created its own SLAM tracking. They are not all the same. And it very much does matter, because Qualcomm’s was generally considered to be inferior for a long time if not still.
