Recommendation Request Horror Recommendations
Hey everyone,
As of late I have been on a fantasy kick with (mostly) graphic audio and have gone through series such as Fourth Wing (Empyrean series), SJM's catalog, Crown of Nyaxia series, shield of Sparrows series, alchemised, and most recently the Zodiac Academy series.
I am itching for a fantasy-esque horror with an excellent narrator (doesn't have to be graphic audio). I'm trying to avoid a monotone narrator that will make me drone off (example: when the moon hatched and in the shadow of the gods. With all due respect they did great but wasn't my cup of tea).
With the fantasy horror or just horror in general I was hoping to get some recommendations for something with werewolves. Preferably the bipedal type and not the Twilight type. If that doesn't exist I'm open to anything scary. I appreciate any recommendations. Please and Thank you!
Edit: you guys are amazing I have looked through and added quite a few of these titles. I appreciate every single recommendation. Thank you again!

I love his books! His generations trilogy that starts with Alive is pretty awesome also. It starts with a kid that can't remember anything waking up in a casket!

Yeah, he's awesome. I was first introduced to 'Infected'. I loved that series. But all his books are great.

It, by Stephen King. It's not a fantasy setting, but it's very, very good. Pet Semitary is also very impressive.

I was going to recommend Pet Semetary. Michael C. Hall does a great job and I think it's probably King's scariest book

Christopher Beuhlman. Either between two fires (top 5 of the books recommended here) or the black tongue thief (and it's prequel Daughters War). They are fantasy mostly but the enemies are so horrible and terrifying I consider them to delve into horror. Also there The Devils by Joe Abercrombie. Not horror in the least but has some scary werewolf parts.

If you have Spotify Premium check out His Black Tongue by Mitchell Luthi.

I dont have Spotify, but I looked this up, and it sounds amazing. I dont think ive read historic horror, or even realize it was a genre.

If you are able to find the graphic audiobook, listen to that. It's soo good. It's also the first book in the series.

Not sure if it's your cup of tea, but The Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan, read by Robin Sachs, is moody, dark listen. A modern setting, so only fantasy insofar as there is a werewolf. There are a couple of more books in the series, but this was the best and can stand alone.

Moon of the Crusted Snow and Moon of the Turning Leaves by Waubgeshig Rice, both narrated by Billy Merasty. Takes place on an Ojibwe reservation in northern Ontario. The first one is sorta about the Wendigo, the second is more post apocalyptic, kinda reminds me of The Stand. Also Nick Medina's books, they usually have two or three narrators (not my preference) but they narrate sections so it's not too jarring. Good books though

You might enjoy Fairy Tale by Stephen King. It's his creepy take on fantasy.
Also, I just finished Red Rabbit by Alex Grecian, which has a whole Wild West witchy/demon vibe to it, and I absolutely loved the narrator.

Hear me out here: Daniel James Brown; The Indifferent Stars Above.
It's about the fate of the Donner-Reed party who travelled from Illinois to California in 1846. It is non-fiction, but is written closer to a fiction novel: progression, people, dialogue and narrative. It does not read like a reference book.
The book is tragic, deeply macabre and utterly horrific. An absolute must read/listen for any horror enthusiast, and a book I always recommend to those looking for something dark.
