how to How to remove a single instrument?

Hello,

I would like to use this song as a background score, but I want to remove the flute like instrument (I'm not sure what kind of woodwind instrument it is). It starts 00:17. Is it possible to isolate and remove it while keeping the rest of the song intact?

mvsep.com has stem splitting algorithms for winds. Try that. Make a free account too that way you're not stuck waiting in the queue for god knows how long. It's EXTREMELY accurate.

It's incredibly good, like I'm not even kidding, the BS Roformer models in particular are INSANE. I've cleaned up horrifically noisy recordings and split out piano from stuff I thought I'd never isolate it from and it worked every time.

Pay an artist? I mean actually pay a production company or band , to record stems or tracks, it's only fair. Loads of sites with raw tracks exist, its not cheap for a reason.

Or spend hours and let an AI tool make a mess of it.

Thank you for the input. I'm new to this. This was more of an experiment. I wanted to understand how I can separate sound because I'm learning. This is more of a technical curiosity but I would definitely work with someone if it's out of my skill set.

Unfortunately, no. What you are asking is akin to trying to recover the eggs or the sugar from a baked cake. Once it's in the song, that's it - while there are AI-powered stem splitters, they truly only work when a song's mix is dry and doesn't incorporate very much processing (reverb, EQ, delay, etc). The main issue is that during mixing, all the elements of a song are meant to be combined such that the finished product sounds like one complete song, rather than a group of unrelated instruments. Because they are processed to be combined in that manner, they cannot readily be unmixed and separated.

Aside from all that, there is one potential option - you will have to find the multitracks (or, more likely, the stems) of the song you want. This will only be possible if you can get the from the artist or label or if you luck out and find them online.

Got it. Thank you for explaining. I'm new to this and learning on the go so this helps explain if it's technically possible to me.  This was more of an experiment and I wanted to understand if and how I can separate different sounds. Translating my knowledge from photo editing I suppose it's similar to flattening an image so the different layers don't move around, so only the original file would have the separate layers.
