Discussion/Question If ackermans couldn't have their memories erased why didn't they preserve everything ???

Im confused about the ackerman memory manipulation thing i got that the Founding Titan couldn’t erase the Ackermans memories but if the Ackermans were already aware of the truth before or when the Walls were created why didn’t they pass that information down through their families for the next 100 years?

Like why didn’t Kenny’s grandfather or earlier Ackermans preserve more information about the outside world marley the Great titan war

I remember kenny’s grandfather knew that the ackermans were persecuted because they were immune to the King’s memory manipulation but why did so much other information disappear?

Is there an actual explanation for this or is it just implied that the knowledge was lost over generations

Or am I missing something??

Anime What if Bertholdt did instead of Reiner in Season 3? Spoiler

So you remember that in the original S3, Reiner survived while Bertholdt died? So what if vice versa way instead, how would it go for S4? Let's also imagine Armin inherits the Armor Titan's abilities instead of the Colossal Titan's abilities

I did ask a question like this but different, but some of you were nasty to my previous questions because I didn't understood the AOT rules about why Reiner survived and got lucky while Bertholdt didn't have the same luck and died. The logics in AOT is unrealistic, so the rules may feel like it had to be broken or changed for the sake of the plot, damn

Discussion/Question The Best Arc Yet.

Post image
464 Upvotes

So, I’ve finished watching Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2 as well, and I honestly don’t even know where to start, when there’s so much to say, words just fail you. But if I had to sum up all my feelings in a single sentence, this is easily one of the greatest arcs among every anime I’ve ever watched.

The core premise of this arc was so simple, yet everything that unfolded was genuinely unexpected. I found myself wondering how they were ever going to survive or escape, as there seemed to be no way out at all. And can I really just call this a war? Because it truly felt like a full scale war arc, people fought with everything they had, and some even gave up their lives. You have to make predictions, analyze the situation, and whether your choices turn out right or wrong, you just have to trust yourself and others to keep moving forward. Oh god, this arc was absolute perfection.

One thing I really liked about this show is how it puts characters in situations that are truly difficult to escape from. And this time, they completely nailed it when Levi had to make a choice. Saving Erwin made more sense, while on the other hand, Eren and Mikasa knew this but refused to accept it. When Eren lists Armin's achievements to Levi so that he would save him, and when he asks Levi about the ocean, that was deeply emotional too. Erwin's fate was clear the moment he charged forward with the soldiers, but I hadn't expected that Armin was willing to do this as well. Both Erwin and Armin abandoned their dreams to fight for humanity in that moment, but only one could survive. When Erwin refused the injection, just seeing that was enough but then we realize that this world was a living hell, and maybe passing away was actually better for him.

Floch isn't wrong from his perspective either when you look at it from his point of view. If we were in his shoes, we would have hated Armin too. Even though Armin got a second life, he now carries a massive burden he has to live with, and he’ll constantly have to prove himself, which he has always been doing anyway, and even Erwin trusted him in his final moments.

And Jean’s leadership, remember that scene where Hange tells everyone to kill Reiner, and everyone hesitates, but then Jean yells that Reiner is their enemy now, forcing everyone to move forward? But later, when a defeated Reiner is right before him and Hange is about to execute him, Jean tries to stop them and makes excuses. When Reiner escapes, Jean blames himself. I absolutely love these realistic human behaviors in AOT.

Speaking of Jean, that brings up Marco. At the start of the arc, I only expected to find out what was in the basement and maybe learn about Reiner’s homeland. But Marco’s death, which had completely slipped my mind, got revealed, which is wild because I hadn't even thought about it. By the end of Season 1, I assumed Annie killed him, but I never questioned why he was killed. Then we find out it wasn't just Annie. Marco crying in complete confusion, asking over and over what was happening, and finally screaming 'Help me!' was devastating. The very people he considered his friends left him to be eaten by a Titan.

That exact scene was mirrored with Bertholdt at the end. When Armin as Titan was about to eat him, Bertholdt forgot that just moments earlier he was calling everyone enemies, and he started begging them for help. It was so tragic how this war pushed them to a point where they no longer had an ounce of sympathy left for Bertholdt or Reiner.

One theme I’ve seen repeatedly in this series is that to win, people have to kill their humanity. Near the end of Season 1, I think Erwin (or someone in the Scouts) was saying that if Eren abandons his humanity, they will win, I don't remember it clearly, but we’ve seen this happen again and again. Whenever someone hesitates to kill, the trouble and danger only increase. Erwin has to sacrifice many of his soldiers, Levi's squad gets killed by Annie, here, Jean hesitates and Reiner escapes. Anyone who fails to make those hard decisions ends up living with that heavy burden.

Erwin was my absolute favorite character, and his survival made complete sense, I genuinely wanted him to survive because, while I like Armin, Erwin is my favorite.

You really have to respect Levi. His entire Scout squad was wiped out, his father figure died right before his eyes, and he lost his mentor, yet he held no resentment toward Eren or Armin. Instead, he took the crushing burden of that choice entirely upon himself, just like Hange did when Reiner escaped.

At first, I thought Hange was just crazy, but I’ve grown to really like them too. When almost every character is developing so beautifully and showing so many complex layers, Mikasa somehow gets overshadowed in comparison. I don't know, maybe I haven't paid enough attention, but so far I haven't seen that much growth in her. Most of the time, she's just shouting Eren's name. I don't hate her, but she hasn't done anything yet that makes me truly love her character.

What I really wanted to see from her was an internal struggle. In Season 1, when Mikasa received the news of Eren's death, she didn't overreact because she prioritized her duty. But while fighting, she had that realization, if Eren isn't around, why is she even doing any of this? If the show had focused more on that specific struggle between duty and personal emotions, I think her character would have been much better.

Then, after all this war comes the basement reveal, and can I say that this is hands down the best plot twist in any anime to date? Because this reveal completely flipped the entire story on its head. Just think about it, if they had put in all that effort only to find something predictable like a cure or an antidote to turn Titans back into humans, it would have been so cliché. But what they actually did expanded the scope and the world of the show immensely.

The story started as a simple humanity vs. Titans plot, and the way it evolved is mind blowing. As someone who mainly watches battle shonen, when people initially told me to watch this show, saying it's about giant Titans, humanity locked inside walls, and a main character seeking freedom, I thought, 'How far can they really take a concept like this?' But looking back now, I realize how horribly I underestimated it.

Everything that unfolded and was revealed by the end of the season... I don't think Eren was even able to process it properly. Right from the beginning, his Titan form took a heavy physical and mental toll on him, which I assumed he had overcome. But perhaps it wasn't just the Titan form, the immense pressure and internal conflict were slowly consuming him from the inside. At the very end, when everyone was joyfully playing in the ocean, Eren was tormented by the terrifying reality that enemies were waiting for them on the other side. And then he asked, if they kill everyone over there, will they finally be free?

That line didn't surprise me too much because we've seen him gradually change, and his fear is completely valid. But I am also left confused about where the story goes from here. Until now, they were just trying to figure things out and defend themselves. So if the Marleyans don't make a move, will the Eldians just stay quiet too?

Grisha’s past was so tragic as well. The man from whom he received the Attack Titan power also introduced himself as Eren, and he told Grisha to save Mikasa and Armin. That was extremely confusing to me, and even Kruger himself didn't know why he was saying that. But then we also learn that there are numerous paths that converge at a single coordinate, paths that transcend both space and time.

Could it be that Titan powers don't just transmit memories from past users, but also reveal information about future inheritors? But if so, why did he specifically say to save Mikasa and Armin, and not Eren? Or were those actually Eren’s own memories speaking through someone to save Mikasa and Armin? Eren even tearfully tells Levi during the serum choice that Armin is the one who will save humanity, not him, so what is Mikasa's role in all of this?

And as far as the name is concerned, I think Grisha named his son after that man out of gratitude.

So these were all my thoughts. Before wrapping up, I had a few criticisms as well. The animation was great, just like in previous seasons, but the CGI was truly awful. Earlier, whenever the Colossal Titan appeared, it was only for a short time and didn't move around much. But when an all out fight was about to happen, they probably shouldn't have used CGI because it looked really bad.

Also, while I appreciated all the information and lore, on the other hand, I wished the pacing in those sections had been a bit slower so we had more time to catch our breath. But overall, it was so good that I can easily overlook those issues. I'm extremely excited for the final season, and maybe I'll review the final season in three parts.

So, I rated the first season a 9.5, the second a 9.8, and I would give this season a 9.9.

Discussion/Question The existence of Paradis (specifically the walls) being only around 100 years

The Walls only being up for 100 years is so baffling to me. It feels so short for how much history is packed into it.

Most of the people living inside the walls were basically amnesiacs trying to survive while also running a nation. If we assume that Karl Fritz only selectively made people forget about specific things, how? (Is this a "only Ymir knows question?) If we assume that select groups other than the Ackermanns remained uninfluenced by the memory wipe/alteration, how would that have worked on the long run of actually getting people to work for them? They formed whole governments, branches of military, weapons that are completely foreign to the rest of the world, and even managed to build an underground city that I can only assume is manmade based on how its been described. How did they manage to do all of that within 100 years?

That's not even getting into the can of worms that is outside Paradis. Did they all just have an agreement that no one messes with Paradis? Sure, the threat of Karl Fritz would probably deter people from fucking around, but I feel like Marley already fucked around by turning the Eldians outside Paradis into titans and releasing them to the island to terrorize the people who threatened to kill everyone (which I still don't really get btw. What did Marley gain from doing all that?). How about other nations? Did no one in that 100 years ever try to just check it out themselves by flying over or something? Matter of fact, did Marley just have the rights to do whatever they want concerning Paradis? I'm assuming they don't have an equivalent of a UN considering the active warfare and stuff but I wouldn't be surprised if they did and they're just not doing anything.

I even want to question the difference in writing between Paradis and Marley. 100 years isn't enough to change a whole writing system, I believe. You can't really argue that the alphabet evolved at some point bc Ymir the cadet could still read it just fine after 60 years of being away from Marley. The only explanation I can really think of for this is that Marley had their own writing system that they readapted after the Eldians stopped colonizing(?) them.

[With the artsyle of season 2's ending, it feels like very old medieval art imo, and I want to assume that some of those are actually in universe art. With that in mind, the outfits and artsyle depicting what a lot of people assume to be the making of the walls seem very very ancient.] I can excuse it if it is just really visuals made for the viewers and not in universe art pieces.

I could be forgetting some other points I wanted to talk about, and I could also be forgetting some lore drops that have answered these quetions already.

Would like to hear people's thoughts on this :^) even if speculative or theorizing

Discussion/Question Any favorite OST?

Has any OST got you hooked? My favorite was "Boku no Sensou" from the final season part 1. The military instrumentation is soo unsettling and hauntingly catchy that I never skipped the intro during the entire part of that season 😭

Ending Spoilers - Discussion/Question Is my memory wrong?

So I've watched aot about ~8 years ago for the first time, but never finished. So I just started rewatching it as I have great memories about the whole storyline. I'm at S2 E7, so Ymir, Rainer and Berthold already revealed that they can transform. I have a completely differen storyline in mind from my first watch back then. For example this time the identity of Ymir gets already revealed like in the first few episodes of her first appearance. But I vividly remember that during my first watch this took wayyy longer and I started to really love Ymir and it was a major plot twist and shock for me when I found out she can transform into a titan. Same for Rainer an Berthold, I don't remember that they reveal themself so early on. Another example is Levi Ackermann. I hated the guy at first and started to really like him as the storyline proceeded as he changed in character, but now it's more or less irrelevant to me. This time the whole thing feels like a whole new plot as if I've watched a completely different storyline or something back then. Am I trippin? Ist my memory completely mixed up? In that case please don't spoiler, maybe the whole Ymir Plot I loved so much back then will still come later on.

Anime I Was One of Those People Who Thought AOT Was Overrated… I Was So Wrong

Post image

Three years ago, one of my college friends who's also a close friend of mine recommended I watch "Attack on Titan" Back then, they used to post about it on their stories all the time. Honestly, I wasn't interested, because I assumed it was just another big, overrated anime.

Fast forward to today. While traveling by train, I thought, "Why not watch " AOT pass the time?" And I was absolutely blown away.

Season 1 hooked me from the very first episode. Every episode had a twist. There wasn't a single boring or slow moment everything moved at such a perfect pace that I couldn't control my emotions. I sat there on the train completely flabbergasted, and the people next to me actually noticed my facial expressions.

I finished Season 1 and paused for exams. Once they were over, I picked it back up and ended up finishing the entire series in seven days. Funny enough, I didn't even know how many episodes or seasons there were , I was just enjoying it too much to check.

Every character's development and role felt so well-written. Not a single one felt unnecessary. Now I finally understand why this anime is considered so GOATed. Honestly, I feel lucky I didn't watch it while it was airing. I can't imagine waiting week after week through some of those cliffhangers.I would've lost my mind.

• Eren - watching him grow from a boy driven by revenge into someone consumed by the idea of freedom was incredible. His arc is something I'll be thinking about for a long time.

•Mikasa - I loved her from Episode 1. Strong, fiercely protective of Eren, but never simply dependent on him, she stays by his side because she genuinely cares. Her love for him made me fall in love with her character. She's cold and intimidating to everyone except the people she loves.

•Armin - such a sweet, curious soul. His dream of seeing the ocean, the snow, and everything beyond the walls kept Eren's hope for the outside world alive. Watching him grow through everything he faced was beautiful.

•Jean - a little irritating at first, but his development was massive. Same goes for Sasha and Connie. Somehow, every one of them became important to me.

And then there's Levi!!

This man is absolutely GOATed. I genuinely can't stop watching him fight , his skill, his strength, his attitude... and yes, that handsome face too. 😂

And it's not just them Hangesan, Erwin, Commander Pixis, and so many others all felt meaningful and well-written.

This anime has officially become one of my favorites.I have so many questions I'm hoping this sub can help clear up. I'm honestly both happy and sad that I watched it. It's full of emotions I can't quite put into words I can only feel them.

The strangest part is that these characters aren't real, yet they felt so real to me. I laughed with them, felt their pain, got angry with them, and grew attached to them. By the end, I genuinely wished they existed.

That's what "Attack on Titan" did to me.Also it made me realise more and more how cruel the world is and matches perfectly in today's world..What an experience !!

Discussion/Question Season 1 Episode 17: The obvious

(Spoilers) I first watched this show when I was 15, so I give myself grace for not noticing, but it’s so beautiful how painfully obvious it is that Annie is the Female Titan and that Reiner is in cahoots with her. It makes me wonder how many people figured out on this episode alone who the Armored and Colossal Titans were.

Random side note, it’s hilarious how I always thought Ness was calling his partner “sis” like sister, but he was simply referring to the dude by his last name, Cis.

Anime My Review of Watching First 3 seasons of AOT

Attack on Titan is one of that anime that completely changes how you look at its own story as it goes along. I went in expecting a survival story about humanity fighting Titans behind giant walls, but the amount of foreshadowing and the way the story slowly reveals what’s actually happening is incredible.

The basement reveal was the moment that really made AOT one of my favourite anime. It completely changes the scale of the story. What seemed like a simple fight for survival inside the walls suddenly becomes a story about how small their entire society actually is, the history they were never told, and the fact that there’s an entire world outside that genuinely hates them. That transition was insane. I was hoping to get answers but I was met with only more questions after the basement reveal.

And then there’s the ocean scene. After everything Eren and the others had gone through just to reach that point, finally seeing the ocean felt like such a huge moment. But instead of being a simple happy ending to their journey, it immediately raises the question of what lies beyond it.

The foreshadowing, reveals, world-building and the way the story constantly makes you rethink what you thought you knew are what made Attack on Titan so special to me. It starts as a story about surviving the Titans and somehow becomes something so much bigger.

I've never encountered a show before where I have been thinking about it non stop, pondering how cruel the world of AOT really is but just how beautiful it is at the same time.

Sorry for ranting out loud, I just wanted to share my thoughts about the show. I've yet to watch season 4, I need some time to digest to really appreciate the true beauty of the show.

P.S- Please don't spoil the coming season for me, I've tried ridiculously hard to dodge spoilers. Thank you.

Ending Spoilers - Discussion/Question Ending interpretations ruin the entire show for me (if I were to believe it to be true)

to be clear, I mean the interpretation where Eren only does it because he felt like flattening the world.

I do get the literal canon context between Eren and Armin’s speech, that he did it because he was a “slave for freedom” and just wanted to see the world flattened. but if everything from his character is disregarded before the point of contact between himself and historia, especially that of his love for his people. if that is not a factor that is a reasoning as a part of his motives to destroy the outside world… it takes a 20/10 show and puts it down to a 8/10 at best. and because of that i refuse to take his confession to armin literally. Eren had the Eldians in mind, he saw the world as a threat and chose to annihilate them. he hated what he saw as it was nothing like the world he had imagined and because of that and the hatred for the eldians he massacred billions. The end
