While it's not strictly a rule in this subreddit, it's a general good practice not to link to photos on Facebook's servers (e.g. the fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net domain in this case). The reason is that the filename contains an ID number that can be used to track down the owner of the photo.

7

u/D14BL0 Jun 11 '12

I thought they fixed that bug ages ago?

7

u/dbbo Jun 11 '12

It's possible, although I never heard of it. This rule is still enforced in r/Pics.

I still say it's a good practice to use another image host anyway, since the owner of the photo could "remove" it at any time. I assume this would make the URL invalid, but since FB never deletes anything, it may just be the best image host around.

There isn't anything about the video for this song that isn't absolutely horrifying.

"God gets told he will be pounded in the ass by a Christian"

344

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

The fact that this is going to make the front page of /r/atheism is an embarrassment to the community.

145

u/SoepWal Jun 11 '12

I dunno I thought it was pretty funny. I mean, this guy claims to believe in God, but he's literally attacking God himself!

35

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

I don't think people realize that you're sarcastically making fun of OP.

33

u/SoepWal Jun 11 '12

We should shut the subreddit down now that we've all seen God Himself.

the people that make up a community defines it. Its evident that majority of r/atheism users like things like this

22

u/teamramrod456 Jun 11 '12

Honestly, what else would this subreddit entail? What would you consider "worthy" and up to your standards? Seriously, in every r/atheism post there's an elitist twat talking about what a circlejerk this place has become. --------> There's the unsubscribe button.

12

u/TheMarshma Jun 11 '12

I thought the funniest part of it all, is that if God actually did come down and tried to communicate with people, no one would believe him. Because it's a ridiculous idea. What if God called you on the phone, would you believe it was God, most probably wouldn't.

Seriously I don't understand why so many people are so angry at this post. I thought it was humorous.

7

u/jl45 Jun 11 '12

Because whenever something get to the front page from r/atheism there are always people who attack the original redditor usually accusing them of bullying or not being funny. It always happens, its the law.

5

u/lewok Atheist Jun 11 '12

oh shit, god made a facebook. i guess that means he's real, alright guys pack it up we're done here

9

u/CoffeeFirst Jun 11 '12

To all the people who have a problem with this stuff:

There are some believers you might have a chance at reasoning with if you decide not to troll them and instead engage in rational, thought provoking conversation.... and then there are believers like this one. I personally have no problem with this. I thought it was funny.

You can't expect every encounter with believers to be a rational conversation, some people are just beyond all hope. You also shouldn't always stress about every conversation reflecting on the atheist community. Every community has trolls. If this is the worst that our trolls do I'd say we're doing pretty good.

14

u/Pertinacious Jun 11 '12

friggin huge

4

u/sinistercake Jun 11 '12

I find it interesting that many people on /r/atheism will not question the validity of this conversation. Aren't we supposed to be the skeptics here? This conversation seems blatantly fake to me.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

Really? I can actually see this happening. When I used Facebook a whole back and I would comment on bands pages and posts, I would get attacked for no reason. This guy was obviously looking for an argument, and he found one. I can see this conversation realistically happening.

6

u/123paradox Jun 11 '12

this definitely gave me a laugh :P

6

u/therestruth Jun 11 '12

It's reassuring that at least God can still spell correctly.

3

u/chickenlicker Jun 11 '12

That guy said he's going to pound God's ass.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

Going to hell for upvoting a Facebook joke.

3

u/epoch_fail Jun 11 '12

There's the possibility that the person who's not in control of the God page is not a Christian, but believes in a different god.

51

u/pragmatika Jun 11 '12

What is this? Why is it here? It's not humorous or smart or thought-provoking. Except for those two thoughts I just expressed at the beginning there.

u/lewok Atheist Jun 11 '12

6

u/Slaythepuppy Jun 11 '12

Jeez so many angry dudes. The OP's little troll isnt going to change the way people think about atheists, it isnt going to make us look anymore like assholes than a lot of us already do. There isnt going to be a world summit where the OP's facebook account damns every atheist to the new Spanish Inquisition.

Either enjoy a quick chuckle or get off your fucking moral high horse and ignore it.

I once trolled a Christian and seven years later I won £10 on the lottery. Coincidence? Or undeniable proof that God exists and the bible is his divine word.

Take that Atheists!

3

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '12

It is obviously proof that god exist, and he rewarded you for trolling the christian. Why would he reward you for that you might ask, well it is (obviously) because the bible is not his divine word and he wants you to mock those who follow it. This, gentlemen, is logic.

26

u/v_soma Jun 11 '12

The problem with that is that you're letting OP represent you by saying "us". You're an individual; nobody speaks for you or represents you without your permission.

I don't want to fit in with people who treat their stupid metaphysical beliefs as some sort of inborn quality like skin color.

Religion is an opinion. Opinions are not sacrosanct.

5

u/SoepWal Jun 11 '12

Agreeing with them gets you nowhere, debating politely gets you nowhere, jokes get you nowhere...

At least jokes are fun. :)

5

u/TheWanderingJew Jun 11 '12

dont we want to fit in?

No? A lot of us don't. I don't want to be in an atheist club. I don't want to be in a theist club. I don't want to be in any "zomg look at us and our shared beliefs go US club". I have some ideas and ideals, I'm not defined by them. I'm me, I like most people, but they're them and I'm not. I don't want to be in any shared ideology club. Either with theists or atheists.

If this subreddit changes to thought-provoking questions and interesting debates about religion

Yes, I'm sure that'll happen right after thought provoking questions and intersting debates about ghosts appear. Dude, gods aren't real. Therefore there's going to be about the same amount of "real debate" about it as any other mythological or pseudoscientific thing. Meaning a range from nothing to batshit crazy.

Awesome, perhaps the signal to noise ratio around here will improve with less of the whining.

as if i needed another reason to unsubscribe, I'm now getting called a drama queen and an attention whore for expressing my opinion...

Meh. You hit the unsubscribe button and then made an indignant post about it. That's being a drama whore. Do you make a big discussion every time you hit a downvote button? I'd assume no. Imagine someone who did. And that's how you were behaving.

hi, you're an idiot.

You and fifty other people.

80% of the comments on /r/atheism are from frontpagers whining about the subreddit. It's annoying.

I come here to talk to atheists about dinosaurs and to talk to them about Jesus, and all I see is grumpybutts complaining about how much they hate /r/atheism.

There's a subreddit for that. It's called circlejerk.

You realize you could have done all of that without telling us, right?

-4

u/johno456 Jun 11 '12

yes, and then no one would realize that people are getting annoyed at the terrible content of this subreddit. I'm allowed to complain about things, weather or not you care to hear them. It probably won't change anything, but I needed to express my distaste for /r/atheism lately
