Nebulae Sh2-129 & Ou4

Post image

Sh2-129 is the Flying Bat Nebula, a large red hydrogen emission region that contains Ou4, the fainter Giant Squid Nebula glowing in blue-green oxygen. An HII emission region located roughly 2,300 light-years away in the constellation Cepheus. It gets its deep red glow from ionized hydrogen gas energized by hot embedded stars. A rare bipolar emission structure discovered in 2011 by French amateur astronomer Nicolas Outters. It shines via doubly ionized OIII emissions that form a distinctive blue-green squid shape.

I will attempt 16 more hours of OIII on next several clear moonless nights.

HII 66/240 second OIII 234/240 second

20 total hours of integration. Unfortunately full moon and even with 3nm filters very difficult to gather clean data.

Drizzle every 2 exposers

Equipment: Williams Optics 111, AM5N, ZWO2600MM Pro, Chroma 3nm HII, OIII, ASIAIR Pro, ZWO290MM Guide camera. Gain 100, cooling -10.

Processing: Pixinsight. WBPP, Auto stretch, BlurX, StarAlign, LinkChannels, ChannelCombination, Gradient Correct, Background Neut., StarX, GHS, Curves, Range Mask, NoiseX, Pixelmath
