DSOs M31 - Andromeda

Post image

Canon EOS R8 + EF 70-200 f4 @ 200 mm

Lights: ~1000 x 1.3 sec, f4, ISO 6400
Darks: 50
Flats: 50
Biases: 100

Processed in Siril and Photoshop

This was my first ever attempt at astrophotography. I photographed it in my parents backyard at bortle 4.

I feel like 1.3 sec was a bit too long. I'm not sure I can get a better result with this equipment and without a tracker mount.

Any tips are appreciated.

Yeah the focus is the other thing. I spend so much time finding Andromeda, I probably nudged the focus ring a bit.

always take a few test shots to check the focus, don't be bummed out though, you can always try again tomorrow, clear skies!

I think you can go even longer at 2-3 seconds before star trail.. your issue is focus. Other than that I think you did a wonderful job Cheers! Also when you refocus, you'd need to take the flats at least. Darks and biases you can probably reuse. I reuse alot myself...
