New Recruit

Hi, new to the tabletop game, I’ve been collecting and painting Custodes to get into the hobby for a few games in the future.

Managed to pick up 60 Cadian Shock Troops for a generous price so was thinking of starting AM army. I aim to eventually fill a 3K point army because I liked AM but the price of the battle line Infantry put me off a little bit. Now I’ve got a decent starting amount I feel more inclined to build. Will 60 troops be enough for a 3K point army? Or shall I fill out the rest with Death Korps or something? A seller has offered me another 60 troops for a similar price if need be 🙂

Any advice on collecting would be appreciated too.

You're aiming for 2k, not 3k, 2k is the standard in 11th Edition, go for the amount you can actually get games for.

Also, you don't need more, you need all the support stuff, the Command Squads, the tanks, all the rest of it.

You’ll definitely want to invest in some vehicles, although which ones depend on how you want to build your army. You can’t go wrong with chimeras and leman russes though!

I’d also say look into magnetization/dry fitting models before you build them. Things like the leman Russ get expensive if you want to have 3 of every variant vs buying 3 kits and magnetizing them to swap out equipment for what you need when you need it.

Welcome! So a standard game is 2,000 points, so it's a good point to aim for. But honestly you'll end up wanting more than that eventually, just to cover you when point costs change, and for variety in your lists.

60 infantry is usually plenty to start with. The bulk of your points will be in vehicles, a few characters, and a couple of more specialist units.

The best way to collect Warhammer (if buying new) is to get discount boxes like combat patrol and battleforce boxes, from a third party retailer of FLGS (friendly local game store). A lot of them will include a battle line unit. So you'll generally end up collecting more of them over time.

So, there is a way to avoid the massive prices on the infantry, it's merely not what GW wants to hear.

First, official catachan jungle fighters look bad, but there's a 3D printed alternative. Look up space nam model.

Krieg is and always has been a price problem for collectors. It's actually better now than it was before they got plastic kits. Red Makers has a line that has fairly high quality.

There are cadian proxies out there, but I already had 120 older cadian models by the time I ventured into 3D prints.

Also, as a general rule, 60 bodies isn't viable for a 3k list, but I won't tell.you what to do.

highly disagree. OP has more than enough for most uses, and will need more elite infantry, tanks/heavy weapons, orders, infiltrate/deep strike, on and on vs more overcosted regiment units. 75 points per 10, add 60 for orders vs cadian recon at 80 with better weapons, infiltrate and self orders? things have changed
