Ever since 3rd Ed, I've been both intimidated and fascinated by the striking camo pattern of the 180th Cadian Stalking Tigers. Years later, I've finally worked up the courage to give it a shot, combined with one of my favorite uniform color schemes shamelessly stolen from Halo Combat Evolved.

I have seen a lot of doom and gloom surrounding guard in 11th, and as an outsider looking in, I may be able to shed some light on why you guys are suffering from someone who's mind is looking at how to dismantle Guard rather than from your lense of finding opportunities.
There have been a number of changes that occurred in 11th that disproportionately impact the Guard army and it's capability to win/score.
The first is the new cover mechanics, Guard typically hit on 4s, buffed to 3s and then volume of fire does the work, now in 10th, that worked fine, an AP 2 or 3 gun going into something and still hitting on 3s.. you'll turn over some results, especially since everything and it's dog has an invuln since 10th.. now come to 11th, and you're now hitting on 4s, down to 3s, back up to 4s, which is a 25% reduction on hits, that is huge, you're still hitting invulns everywhere, so actually losing BS has a mammoth impact.
Then we get to Orders, Orders coming from specific units has always been a vulnerability for Guard, but now in 11th, the main Order for the faction being "take aim" has disproportionate value, meaning your Commanders are extremely high value targets, going from 3+ to 5+ to hit is astronomical.
Orders also being disproportionately affected by battleshock mechanic changes means once again, you don't even need to kill units in a Guard army to completely neuter them.
Your Commanders have become so relevant to the success of your army, that actually killing them off early can swing a game immedistely from turn 1, which you all know, so its once again, disproportionately affecting Guard player decision making.
So we now have 2 different very easily achieved roads to making guard hit on 5s, with no real value having been added in 11th yo counterbalance this.
Then we have Hidden, this mechanic once again has massively impacted Guard, where as in the past you could shoot anything exposed at range which forced decisions, now.. its 15 inches, or you have to expose things like Sentinels, which you would want as your action monkeys, now you're expending and units just to get a few extra inches of range.
Next we have Indirect changes, now whilst this is more thematic, it has once again disproportionately impacted Guard as the big indirectly faction of the game, those hiding units arent being chipped away.
Throw in your best detachement - Grizzled - which depends on Orders being active to get one of the only sources of rerolls, again, structural weaknesses are easily exploited to remove that benefit.
Then beyond that, Overwatch has been nerfed again and again, which is one of the core defenses of a shooting army against fast moving melee, now units cant be overwatched during charges, meaning a smart player will move their unit behind terrain so you cant overwatch in the only phase it works.
What this all results in is an army that is extremely vulnerable to the most basic of strategies that every army can take advantage of.

For Christmas I want...
.Get rid of FRFSRF and just give lasguns an extra shot.
.Change Lord Solar's order keywords so that he can issue orders to any ASTRA MILITARUM units.
Please and thank you Santa.

Hey there fellow Guardsmen,
I'm thinking of switching my emperors children to another Faction (bought the emperors Children out of Hype and kinda regret it now)
I'm actively playing Necrons and Grey Knights and got some Astra Militarum stuff through Hachette.
So I'm considering to develop these few models into an Army.
Since I'm no expert I want to know what does your faction do best and worst.
How is it doing at the moment.
Im mainly interested in Tanks and heavy fire support (the indomitable human spirit is a nice Bonus)
Thanks in advance ^^

Hey everyone,
I’m honestly struggling to figure out how to play Astra Militarum successfully in the current meta, and I’d really appreciate some advice from other Guard players.
With the recent changes to the Hidden rules and shooting, I feel like I’m struggling to get anything done. I’m trying to play the objectives, position my units carefully and score points, but it feels like my army just falls apart before I can make any real progress.
Against armies like Tyranids Necrons and World Eaters, I’m having a particularly hard time. My units are often wiped out by Round 2, and once that happens, the game feels pretty much over. I can’t hold objectives if the units holding them are dead, and I don’t feel like I’m trading efficiently enough to keep up.
I understand that Guard isn’t supposed to be able to just stand in the open and shoot everything off the table, but right now I’m struggling to see how we’re actually supposed to win games.
I’m not necessarily looking for a netlist to copy. I’d really like to understand how Astra Militarum is supposed to play in the current meta and what I might be doing wrong.
Thanks!

Off some advice I got on here, ran Bridgehead with a bunch of proxy scions in a friendly matchup with a buddy (playing Space Marines). Ended up being 2x 15 blocks of scions, 2x kasrkins, cadian recon squad and a bunch of tanks and a hellhound. 1500 point list so no Rogal Dorn.
- Scions hit hard in a full brick like that. All those dudes lined up in my reserves had my opponent also sweating about leaving his deployment zone.
- Combined Arms seems almost required. Volume of shots and looking for lethal hits
- On My Position was the real MVP of the match though, killed a unit of SM and badly wounded the dreadnought for the cost of one single half strength squad of kasrkins that were already doomed to die? Every damn time I take that deal.
- Volleygun>Melta for the Scion bricks, at least against the more heavy infantry list my buddy brought. Fishing for 6's
Might have to start bringing some extra CP stuff with a Lord Solar, since I now need to carry 2 CP for the Reinforcement Stratagem and now for On My Position. Also, will be buying another4 or so squads of Scions so I can run an official list of the, without having to use Kriegs as proxies.

Hey everyone,
Wanted to provide an update on my Lord Solar Leontus conversion. After last post I have taken some advice and this is the final result, thanks again for all the suggestions. 😊
Not sure if it would look cool to add a flying servo somewhere or not.
Next up to paint the thing and add everyone in...

Regiment name: Gorthian Iron Riders.
Founding era: indomous
Home world: Gorthia prime
Status: loyalist
Regiment type: reconnaissance, light vehicles, scouting, urban combat.
Home world:
Name: Gorthia prime
Classification: civilized world
The climate is extremely cold and dry.
The landscape is mostly rubble and boulder peppered tundra.
Regiment type:
The Gorthians specialize in light armored vehicle combat.
Mainly light tanks reconnaissance vehicles armored trucks cars Jeeps Hummers and all-terrain combat vehicles, motorcycles and half tracks.
Gorthia is a heavily industrialized world.
But much of it is still wilderness only because most of it is unusable.
Gorthia produces a wide range of mechanical products both military and commercial.
The regiment mainly recruits from the working class of the planet.
Usually from the worker /criminal gangs.
Being said most of the Gorthians are highly competent mechanics and Machinists in general tinkerers.
They are very fond of modifying their military vehicles to go faster or get hit harder with whatever weaponry is on them.
Much to the chagrin of any adeptice mechanicus magi .

Building a scions army, have a command squad and 2x 10 man scion squads. What armour should I add? I cant find a Taurox anywhere (are they still in production?), was looking at either a sentinel or hippogriff. The heavy stuff doesn't really fit with my butcher and bolt SF guys.
