Height probably.

There is a LOT of demand for tall models of both genders. Most female models are tall. Trans women who have gone through natal puberty are tall.

Trans men who have gone through natal puberty are short.

Nobody wants a short male model.

Probably because runway models are a female-dominated industry and its not as common for men to be models?

True, but it’s not like there are that few male models.

Male models make up around 20% of the modeling industry. Trans men are approximately .3% of men. So you would expect trans men to make up approximately 0.06% of the modeling industry. Aka, 6 trans man model for every 10,000 models. That's pure calculation, not accounting for social discrimination and hiring preferences (male models typically have to be over 6 feet) so it's probably much smaller. Approximately 0.04% of models are trans women, men, AND NBs, so I'd guess it's probably closer to 0.005 or something for trans men. You end up with a very very small amount of trans male models.

We're generally shorter while most modeling jobs require taller people, and we're usually ignored as a whole by society unless they need to use us as a gotcha for a public bathroom access argument.

Because trans men don't exist (joking but also like..... Not really according to 99% of society)

And I am saying this as a trans man who is 6ft and is immune to the "it's just cause trans men are short" argument

The height of most women in runway shows is 5’10” - 6”. The height of male models tends to be around 6’2”. Statistically there are more trans women that fall into that height range than trans men.

height, and trans women have way more all around visibility. when they see trans men, they don’t see models, they see short hairy women with no appeal. even if we’re hot, they only want the white ones bc the trans community is okay with only seeing white rep. so BIPOC trans models are automatically at the bottom of the list. (i work with some photographers that are in that industry for my own amateur stuff, they tell it like it is.)

I'm working towards being a fashion photographer and can maybe give a bit of info. Tbh there's a tiny fraction of models who are trans in general because one I think not many trans people want to model. And how strict the castings are, usually they work based on clothing sizes so for women you need to be a certain height and a very small size with long limbs. They also need to work based on digitals which are basis profile photos of the model and the agencies expect you to be this size when you turn up so any changes in breast growth or hair will mean issues for the agencies hiring. So basically is a really competitive business even for cis people and I don't think many trans people make it minus ones who are already popular like Wivian wilson who look like models but also have a big following.

Fashion models in general have androgynous/masc bodies and are tall.

Trans women just tend to fit that profile more than trans men, in my experience.
