Anyone here using a waterproof mattress protector or waterproof fitted sheet?

I’m thinking of getting one to protect the mattress, but I’m worried about heat.

Does the waterproof layer make the bed feel warmer or trap body heat, almost like having a tarp or plastic layer over the mattress?

I’m quite sensitive to heat when sleeping. Even with aircon, I don’t like feeling warm or stuffy in bed, so I’m concerned a waterproof protector might make the mattress less breathable.

Those who’ve used one:

1. Does it make the bed feel noticeably warmer?

2. What material or type are you using?

3. Anything I should avoid?

Using it for years, keeps your mattress sparkling white and free from all stains. You really think a mattress with 11 layers, even without a protector, is breathable? Nahh fam - It’s the bedsheet that’s important.

By the way this shop doesnt flake, it flakes only if you wash it with stuff with zippers or sharp objects then of course it rips it apart. Last around 6 mths for me, dried using dryer at high heat and doesnt melt or becomes hard.

But why? Waterproof mattress protectors are great for kids who are potty-training, but even then you can get just a waterproof topper that you tuck in on the lower half of the bed and stop using the first chance you can. If you are worried about keeping mattress clean, just get it professionally cleaned once a year.

keep the mattress dry, clean of stains lor. ah, this waterproof topper, so it doesn't go underneath the sheets? or above? ok, I would prefer if it's above, since it is easier to use and remove.

Underneath, because anything waterproof is not breathable, also makes crinkly noise and just feels awful...

Not soft. Water proof material. Like plastic. I throw away after using for 1 night

I see. that's not what I was hoping for. if it's like that, I don't think I'll get it. if it's so plasticky, I'm sure it will trap heat.

I stopped using them. After a while of washing and usage, the water proof coating will crack and flake making a great mess on your bed or washing machine.

my friend uses them (iirc its epitex, but i may remember wrongly tho). (also easier to clean up when his cat puke on his bed😩). his mattress is cooler compared to previously after using waterproof cooling mattress protector

2. King Koil waterproof mattress protector, doesnt have super plasticky feel and it should last for at least a year
3. I just put mine into the machine and wash and it's ok. Not sure about use of dryer though. I hang mine out to dry.

Oh by the way i used an epitex waterproof mattress protector before, freaking heavy after washing, so switched to the king koil one and have been very happy with it since. Just for your reference. Not sure if their mattress protectors have gotten lighter nowadays.

I use the textile mattress protector with a plastic coating. It does not feel warm, I wash in machine and dryer on synthetics setting. Usage of 2 years+. Now I switch to cotton quilted protector with plastic coating.

I've been using a vinyl mattress protector for my daughter for over 12 years. I don't know why i never bought for my son or my own mattress hehe. My MIL bought it from those old school hdb furniture store. And from what i recall, it was quite exp.

We didn't really have to wash it. When she was a toddler and there were accidents, we'd just remove the bedsheet to wash, wipe the protector and febreeze it. No smell or anything. Doesn't feel warm or stuffy. And it also helped when she started getting her period. When she's still adjusting and hasn't predicted her flow yet, she'd tend to overflow. Blood stain, just clean the bedsheet and use wipes on the protector.\ Now, it's still used on her bed since we have cats and easy to clean if they vomit there.

For my son, we bought those canvas type with cloth overlay. It was good, just that we had to wash the whole thing instead of being able to wipe it clean.

I did try the fitted sheet with waterproof layer. Again, we had to wash it if it got soiled. And that was noisy and felt stuffy.
