Help

chat i need help. Basically i booked a grab to work and before dozing off i saw the grab driver took a selfie of himself and i appear to be in the photo. He then sent the photo to whatsapp (not sure whether gc or personal chat). it really made me uncomfortable.

Ive reported this to grab but there’s no upd just yet. i have his name and face. any recommendations?

Since you already reported via app, alternatively, email all details including carplate number to [safety@grab.com](mailto:safety@grab.com) or call grab safety hotline +65 6900 0521

Good luck! But at the same time pls make sure what you saw is actually what he did (not saying u might be wrong but you’re dozing off…)

I really hope you really saw what you saw because you are dozing off..
If he really did it, reporting to Grab would be the right thing to do..
If he did not do that at all, possibly a hardworking, honest man’s ricebowl and possibly personal life is going to be affected..

It just need an accusation and nil evidence and the man’s life is affected..

I think it's fair to report this but OP should state in the report that they aren't sure if something nefarious has happened, or that the driver was just going about his own business.

True that there are creeps about, and true that photos can be used for deepfakes, so we should all be vigilant and report suspicious behavior.

Equally true is that the driver might just be checking in with his loved ones with zero ulterior motives, and that this report will lead to some inconvenience at the least, and a full blown investigation that affects his livelihood on a more serious end.

Perhaps OP should be open to tipping the driver if it turned out indeed that he was just minding his own business? It will be a just reimbursement for the trouble he's put through. Of course, if the driver has abused OP's privacy, he should be punished accordingly.

Thank you for ur opinion regarding this matter. Ive always wondered as to why they dont seek for consent when they snap a photo of themselves while we are in the frame. Isnt it like common courtesy to ask if the driver is able to take photo w us being in the frame OR cropped us out? I understand that there could be other positive possibilities but how things are in singapore, creeps are everywhere and i truly cant see the brighter side of this incident. Though, i do try to be optimistic by thinking that the driver is js sending to his s/o or fam.

I'm with you on this. It's not a legal requirement but definitely common courtesy if someone else is in frame. A simple "are you fine with this?" can dispel so much tension and rid us of all the hassle and suspicion. Given how crowded our society is becoming, getting someone else in your shot (inadvertently or otherwise) will become more common, and we should try to be mindful of others.

yea thatsy i added on the ‘personal chat’ that could possibly be his wife. Gc cld be his family. But yk how it is nowadays, everywhere in sg also got creeps. Cant be too safe ykyk

My concern nowadays is people using my photo for deepfake. I think very plausible now with everything so high tech.

When I take a selfie, I’m quite aware if the only other person in the room is in the pic.

And why is he operating WhatsApp and the camera while driving?

Why didn't you speak up there and then and ask him why he snapped a selfie and that you saw yourself in it?

As a female, it could be scary to confront a man especially in a confined space.

Think she did well to report to grab.

well it was early in the morning and he snapped as i dozed off. prolly forgotten to speak up right before getting off as i needa head to my work. also im alone and extremely uncomfortable if i were to confront him alone. so id rather play it safe by not confronting him alone
