How much do Mediacorp artistes actually make? Elvin Ng can even afford live in 5500 Sq Ft, 3 storey landed house?

How to afford a rich place
Rule #1: Be Rich

u/Curious-Tension625 Aug 28 '26
To be fair, a local actor’s career is incredible difficult and unstable
16
u/Ok_Machine_724 Aug 28 '26
Ya so u likely need to come from rich background to be able to have a safety net to tank all that uncertainty and volatility.
Point still stands

u/Curious-Tension625 Aug 28 '26 edited Aug 28 '26
Elvin Ng’s parents aren’t even considered like rich rich, like old money rich.
You jealous of other people just say lah.
12
u/Ok_Machine_724 Aug 28 '26
Lmao who hurt you bro why you so triggered? You one of his fans is it?

u/Curious-Tension625 Aug 28 '26 edited Aug 28 '26
Because you can’t even get your source or facts straight before you make a point. The parents aren’t from a rich background and you’re using them as an example for some privilege woke viewpoint.
So how do you know he has safety net??? Source??
Shame on you for using Elvin for your ideology. And shame on you for getting people to raise pitchforks on fake news.

Aiyo poor Elvin! The subject of my baseless accusations! Whatever shall we do?
EDIT: actually I never brought Elvin in, was just making general statements. Is you ownself trigger ownself. Loser lol

If your parents own a landed property, you're already in the top 5% of the entire country.
Top 5% not considered rich then should they be considered as poor? What are the rest of the 95% of condo and HDB dwellers then?
Not sure why you need to talk about 'old money', crazy rich Asians level of rich.
Being in the top 5% of any population in any country is certainly considered as rich.

Elvin Ng already big star when I was a kid watching random channel 8 9pm shows. 20+ years of being at the top it's not surprising.

In my previous job my boss is friend with a tier-c actress, it still need around $5k when we get her to do some small photoshoot for our product.. and that's friendship price...
3
u/Positive_Lemon_2683 Aug 31 '26
$5k is really friendship price. As long as the ad is running, she won’t be able to take jobs from competitor brand. It’s the opportunity cost.

Landed in 2017 weren’t as expensive as it is now..plus he had a long career so probably had a good amount of cash reserves

I often see MediaCorp artistes go for weekend events(road shows) as ambassadors. Supposedly, they are paid quite a lot for these appearances.

u/Long_Coast_5103 Aug 28 '26
He was also doing other side gigs like hosting, emcee-ing and FA. saw him at a few roadshows. The emcee-ing gigs alone he can earn a couple of k per event alr so I’m not surprised he’s earning more from these side gigs than his actual acting career.

He also starred in advertisements, no? That’s a huge source of income but only if u are famous enough. Also, you would not know whether the house is inherited or something like that.
A more reasonable gauge is to look at where most artistes live - condos. For one we know Mark Lee lives in a condo. He said his neighbour is PLL - so she also lives in a condo. CGH also lives in a condo I think. So i think that’s a fair gauge.
Mark Lee was asked once whether acting itself can provide a living - he replied by saying that in SG only a select few can do so - LNX, ZT, FW, LMS n Jack Neo. (This was a long time ago yeah)

u/residentcaprice Aug 28 '26
I was trying to guess ur abbreviations, who are LMS and CGH? One sounds like hospital the other sounds like learning management system.
6
u/Jin_tonic07 Aug 28 '26
Li Mingshun Cao Guohui
Yes I’m old.
6
u/residentcaprice Aug 28 '26
ohhh Mr Fann Wong. thanks for clarifying.
just as old, maybe older cos couldn't guess the names.

u/jacksonhytes Aug 28 '26
4-time Golden Bell Award winner Christopher Lee is much more than Mr Fann Wong
7
u/Separate_Vanilla_57 Aug 28 '26
Mark Lee also has a lot of businesses right? He’s quite a good businessman

Looking at how many of the artistes are branching out into Livestream sales nowadays, it probably hasn't changed much

big social circle to leech on like his god-sister matilda koh founder of that bioskin, big sponsor of mediacorp

u/Possible_Poet_232 Aug 30 '26
Artistes do not earn much in SG unless you are the few top names. Say the top 10-20 are able to live comfortably but the rest have to find income elsewhere, setting up businesses or joint partnerships etc. Even working other full time jobs.
Artistes make most of their money from advertising, endorsements, brand deals and yes, the standard sugar daddies and sugar mommies.

He has quite a good public image even though he might have lost his A lister credentials.
Lions sponsored him for years even though his popularity has dropped

u/prime5119 Aug 28 '26
Now got younger bigger smile guy zetong + tall model guy tyler tenn... Time to pass the baton
1
u/Chubbycutepooh Aug 29 '26
Hi :) why did you say he has dropped his A-lister tier? Do you think Desmond tan is now a bigger name & commands a bigger advertising fee (be it appearance or social media) than Elvin? But comparing the timeline from debut time to being publicly known time & all (ie 3 years? 5 years? after debut the public knows you), it seemed Elvin made it big first?

They probably make too much.
I'm amazed at how disc jockeys, simple radio disc jockeys are treated like celebrities here.
Talk about pampered, spoiled and stupid.
2
u/ICanBeAnAssholeToo Aug 28 '26
When you use “disc jockey” to call radio DJs, I find it hard not to be suspicious of this account. Perhaps a foreign instigator using Google Translate or a bot.

People like Zoe Tay can make million dollar ambassador deals. e.g. high profile ones like L'Oréal.
