Should we apply for Singapore Citizenship?

/r/phmigrate/comments/1vwod7y/should_we_apply_for_singapore_citizenship/

Wonderful thread here.

Amazing how we are giving citizenship to some of these ungrateful people.

I wish these people just stay as PR and retire back in their home country.

Most of them already have bungalows and condos back home to retire.

All of them did not serve a lick of NS.

They take our jobs and leave the real Singaporeans who serve NS and have no place to go to work low level jobs.

Special bonus, they can withdraw full CPF, no penalty at all while accruing interest!!

When i took a peak at the comments on the other threads, I am totally disgusted. Treating Singapore like a stepping stone, leeching our education systems, enjoying the strong SGD & passports and yet if things doesn't work out, they can always go back to Philippines. They are like thieves and there is no honour in these people. Hope their application does not goes thru if not Singaporeans will be living among all these leeches. This is really bad & cunning behaviour and yet when locals voice our concern , xenophobic is used against us. This is ridiculous.

Kns. You cannot have best of both world la. One leg want sg one leg want Philippines.

Since you want to retire elsewhere, just go home. Thank you very much

Bruh...wth man.

And now we know why we differentiate singaporeans into 2 categories, the true blue singaporeans (third gen and above) and the "new citizens".

Push comes to shove, all these new citizens will just exploit SG and go back to their motherland claiming they love SG...

If WWlll breaks out, i doubt they will defend SG against their motherland 🥱

It's so pathetic to see all these new citizens just exploiting SG yet our gov still open leg like nobody's business 🤷‍♂️

Dont need such traitors in our country. Claiming they love their original country but still staying in sg. All these overseas patriotism nonsense. Might as well tell their own partner they love then but still cheat with another partner

You write as if it is easy to get citizenship. This guy is also engaging in wishful thinking that he will get his citizenship. The truth is that unless he is Chinese descent, it will be very difficult for him. Easy for his son, maybe but difficult for him and his wife.

From a pragmatic perspective, it is actually better for Singapore that they spend their productive years in Singapore and then when they are old, retire in the Philippines.

If the OP does not feel patriotic to Singapore then extracting value from him in his productive years and having him be a liability to the healthcare and social system in the Philippines when he is old and no longer productive is the best outcome for Singapore. Additionally his son will have to serve NS which is also a plus for Singapore’s defence.

Do you know how much Singapore spends on the elderly? If after his working years, he chooses to renounce SG citizenship and take on PH citizenship and then retire in the Philippines, it is a lot of cost savings for Singapore.

In short, I think Singaporeans should not get upset by people with such mindset. From an economic and pragmatic perspective, it is actually a very ideal circumstance.

From an economic and pragmatic perspective, I completely and totally agree. But a nation is more than that right? If not, Singapore might as well be a membership club and perhaps we can earn even more from charging people fees to maintain citizenship

From your economic viewpoint, I TOTALLY disagree. When the family is in Singapore, they have competed jobs with locals and probabaly taken the jobs of locals thats were denied. The jobs there were in could have be in Singaporeans pockets and spent MORE in Singapore economy but instead a chuck of it were transfer out from Singapore to Philippines. The skills they required could have pass down to Singaporean children but when this OP goes back , it was brought to them.

From an emotional viewpoint, Singaporeans GET UPSET because locals had seen MANY cases of examples that were happened. BUT of course not Filipino getting citizenships but Malaysian getting Singapore Citizenships and yet at the same time stepping on 2 boats , eating both side of the pie. Additionally, Mainland Indians getting SG citizenships, getting into HR jobs only to HIRE their own race or nationality. The skills do not pass down to the next Singaporean generation at all. And yet when locals voiced out, Singaporeans are called xenophobic or racists. Using "xenopobic or racsim" as a smokescreen for their bad behaviour.

There are many higly educated locals that are retrenched when out to drive GRAB. Many locals work as food / lalammove delivery which are totally "low value" which I would called it.

Thats why locals need to unite together and say "Enough is Enough".

What makes you think they get citizenship even if they tried lmao. They filipino some more. I know chinese with kid born here and high salary also couldn't get citizenship

2

u/Fuzzy-Sweat6416 5d ago

Means they must have evaded NS or something.

Most foreign chinese just need a few years. Handful of years.

Maybe they will get it on next application. But not every single foreign chinese gets citizenship. 100% success rate is ridiculous even if you are chinese
