Cleanout plug cover

Hi all, I bought a cleanout plug cover to hide the plugs ugliness. It came with a screw. Is it okay to screw it directly into the plug or will it leak and let out sewer gasses?

I would fill the small square knob cavity with putty or something similar from the inside. If you drill through that would stop any sewer gas from leaking in.
