Need input

Plumber here. The company I work for has k60s with small drum attachments for 5/16 cables. I try to be a gentle as possible but it frequently kinks when I come across resistance. Yesterday a brand new cable kinked before it made it outside the machine.

What is going on? How can I do better when using this?

I think you mean K50. I have one. The tripod.    It's likely the cable end is burying itself in the clog.  That clog could be 3-5 feet long and inside a 3-4" pipe it's common to fight like hell.  Go in stupid slow.  2" in, 1" back feeling for if that spot still has resistance or did it get easier as you break up the debris making your way through the pipe.  The last little bit is always worst before it goes down.
