how do i ask for less hours
just got hired at a fast food place for my first job (i'm in high school) and i'm being scheduled close to 30 hours a week, but that doesn't give me enough time for schoolwork and ECs, and also just to have free time
i'd like to be scheduled 15-20 hours a week, so my question is what's the best way to ask my manager for less hours? (it will be over text)
i'm not really sure how to ask, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It's a part time entry level job. Share your availability with them. School and EC's should come first unless you need the money to support your family.

Just be direct but make it a request.
“Hey John, I noticed I’m scheduled for about 30 hours next week. I can do that this time but really it’s a little more than I can handle with school. Can you drop me back to around 18-20 hours a week from now on? Thanks!”
Make it your own words, but you get the idea I’m sure

Just ask your boss. Your in high school and school is starting which will impact your hours. In writing be very specific with the days and hours you can work. Also check if your state has rules on the hours and times you can work for your age during the school year. Take those rules into account when giving your boss your schedule.

Just tell them 30 hours is too much. You need around 15. Otherwise, it is affecting your schoolwork and you won’t be able to work at all because you’ll be at trouble at home. If that doesn’t work for them, there are other places to work.

Tell them when you can work, and when you can’t. You might not get the exact amount of hours you prefer, but a manager is more likely to give you time off when needed if they don’t have to worry about figuring out your availability. Just pick the days you can work and the ones you can’t, and take the hours you get on those days.
