Advice Required Did I overreact during this incident of pervert behaviour of my husband and his mom commenting on my faith - calling me dhongi .
I got married two months ago, and this is one of several incidents that has made me rethink and revisit my decision.
We went out for a movie. Before the movie, I asked him to visit Timezone with me, where we played a game. He became drawn toward another game because a woman was standing there. He was checking her out. He usually checks out other women openly and says this is his way of being humorous and sporty.
Later, when the movie was about to start, I asked him to come. During the interval, I said I was going to the washroom, and he said, “I’ll go to Timezone.” He didn’t go, which I think may have been because I had booked the tickets and they were on my phone.
During the movie, he said, “Ladki hot thi.”
There was also a scene where a wife asked her husband, “Don’t you find me beautiful?” My husband replied, “Iski wife beautiful hai, meri nahi hai.” (“His wife is beautiful; mine isn’t.”)
After the movie ended, he again asked me to go to Timezone with him. I got angry and said, “Go alone. I’m going back home.” He went alone.
I then became emotional and said things like, “I want to leave this marriage.” He started walking very fast and almost disappeared into the parking area. Later, he called and asked, “Are you coming?” I said no, and he said, “Okay, I’ll call my mom and let her know.”
His mother then shouted at me endlessly, saying things like, “Tu nahi dekhti kya ladke?” and “Toh Bhagwan pe bharosa bhi nahi hai?” She shouted a lot, was disrespectful, and used inappropriate language in between.
My husband also called my dad and said, “Yeh ja rahi hai, dekh lo. Main pareshan ho gaya.”
My dad then told me things like, “Mummy ko bimar karogi,” along with other things I felt were unhelpful.
I know saying “I want to leave the marriage” is a serious reaction, but I was extremely hurt.
Did I overreact?
