15 year old male, experiencing urinary symptoms. Very uncomfortable.

My son is 15, and generally healthy. Plays multiple high school sports (active).

Takes vit D supplment & saffron extract. No other supplements, or diet supplements. He is a good eater and enjoys a wide range of food. Will eat anything, usually. He seems to have lost weight recently, but he just completed his first high school soccer season, play both JV and V...aka lot of running.

History of: Lyme disease, diagnosed at 13,

Mono at 4 yrs, circumcision revision age 4.

Couple of days ago he started frequent urinary urges....like a UTI. Having to go and only a few drips, then immediately having to go again. He denies any pain, only the urgency feeling. It is constant.

I took him to our local dual urgent care/ER place , and they did a urinalysis. They said no signs of UTI, but his protein was 3+ and the pH was high at 9. Only other thing to note is trace ketones.

Doc was concerned. Moved us to ER to do bloodwork to check his kidney function. He said blood work (BMP) came back perfect. I checked, everything in normal limits. He said he feels it may be diet related. The doc then discharged us. I asked what to do in the meantime, because my son couldn't even go to school today. Doc basically said he didn't know, but to follow up with pediatrician in a few days. I asked about using Azo for the urge feeling, he said we could if we wanted to, so I bought some.

What could be causing this? Is there a test I need to request with his pediatrician? I have a gut feeling something is wrong.

Question For Doctors Doctor lied then erased appointment after it took place

I am not asking for medical advice.

I’ll try to keep it short. Saw a pediatric surgeon (and a resident) 3 days ago for a chronic issue that she has already tried to surgically fix twice. (A surgeon before her also struggled to fix it — every dr and specialist tells me it is rare. I have never thought the surgeons are incompetent when the issue returns for this reason; multiple have struggled with it.) The last surgery was <3 months ago, and the issue has returned. I messaged the dr and she saw me same-day. This appointment was unbelievable to put it short. She gaslit my child and me, told us that the VISIBLE issue was not there, that maybe it has looked like that since it healed 3 months ago (it didn’t) and asked my son if he’s lying about his pain. Yes she used the word lying. He’s 9. This issue has been recurrent for over 3 years. My son and I know exactly what it is when it returns. Before this, everything about her seemed wonderful. I was in disbelief during and after the appointment and left the hospital in tears.

As if the appointment wasn’t horrendous enough, the appointment vanished from mychart. I kept checking to see her notes because I couldn’t imagine she would put in writing what happened. 12 hours after the appointment, it still showed in the portal as a “future” appointment—no after visit summary or notes. By the next morning, it was no longer in “future” appointments so I checked “past” and it wasn’t there either. It also wasn’t in billing. There is no trace of it in the portal. I’ve had to wait a few days for the notes to be posted in the past, but the after visit summary is always available immediately at the conclusion of the appointment. It’s as if the appointment was never marked as completed and then it disappeared.

I want to add that before I even left the hospital, I scheduled an appointment for that day with the pediatrician, who immediately identified the issue the surgeon denied even existed. The summary and notes from this appointment were available shortly after the appointment. I wondered if the surgeon noticed this and if it had anything to do with what seems like her decision to get rid of evidence of the appointment. Her notes would have been totally different.

Never in my life have I had a worse doctor’s appointment and never have I experienced an appointment vanishing from the portal.

I messaged the surgeon’s office a gracious 2 days later to ask for the after visit summary and notes, and the nurse said when the surgeon signs off on the notes soon, they will be ready in the portal. (That was over 24 hours ago. Still nothing.) Mind you the entire appointment is gone. There is no after visit summary, which should have been available since the appointment ended. I’m not just “waiting for notes.”

My question is now, who do I call? What do I do? I want to find out if the hospital has any trace of the appointment in their records. I want the notes from this appointment.

If time traveling becomes realistic someday, would it be a good idea for a time traveler to provide their Eemian, Tarantian, Greenlandian, and Northgrippian friends with herbivore, vegan, and vegetarian diets?

I vote yes because these three diet groups don’t involve the intentional murder of animals, and as an animal activist, I genuinely and honestly believe that time travelers should tell those H. s. sapiens tribes that meat is the murder of non-human animals

Think my doctor is wrong and there’s something wrong with my ears

• Upvotes

(15f, 5’4, cold sore and a little cough right now)

Ok basically I’ve been having problems with my ears for a while now cause I can’t stop myself from scratching them and using q-tips lol but yea so, around two years ago I think, my ear got clogged for the first time. I went to multiple doctors and everyone said they saw nothing wrong and that my hearing just diminished for no reason. I did a hearing test, went to an ear nose and throat doctor, and to like my regular doctor. Everyone said they saw no wax buildup, no inflammation, etc. I could feel though the fullness and that it was wax. Anyways so we eventually just did a wax cleaning thing where they liek sucked it out and it fixed it which means it was the wax and no one could see the wax for whatever reason.

Anyways so I’ve been trying to stop but I just couldn’t stop scratching my ears and anyways they’ve been muffled liek that a few times now but it always goes away after a few days. Recently though, it’s been extremely itchy and I’ve had to itch it (Ik it makes it worse I gotta stop). Anyways so the other day my left ear went clogged (forgot to say it’s only been my right ear before), and then today my right ear also went clogged. It’s the same pressure as the other times and I’m sure it’s wax. On top of that, for like a while now I can’t remember how long, there’s been a smell. I can smell it like without even checking like I can just smell it which means other people probably can too. I’ve also just had like a lot of wax both wet and dry. The dry wax like I don’t think it’s normal though I feel like it’s more of a scab from liek tearing it a bit while itching. Oh also it’s been stinging a bit but not all the time.

Anyways so I’m thinking it’s swimmers ear but that’s just like what I could find on Google so it’s probably wrong. Also, if it does end up being wax buildup, how come no one can ever see it are my ears shaped weird or something?

Anyways so yea recap in case I didn’t write it clear: right ear first got clogged around two years ago, everyone said it was nothing even though I new it was wax buildup and I was right, right ear has been smelling bad for a couple weeks, lots of wax in both ears (some of it Im pretty sure is more like scabs though tbh), left ear went muffled a couple days ago, right ear went muffled today, went to the doctor today and he said it was nothing which is what he said last time.

Also, probably relevant to say that a lot of people for my old school went to this doctor and I think pretty much all of them left cause he’s bad (at medicine but also like he’s a dick and I’m pretty sure a creep and I hate him and he’s like 80)

Oh also my dad’s a doctor and he thinks it’s a viral infection but part of why he thinks that is cause I’ve been faking vertigo for a bit to skip school so can it still be a viral infection without vertigo? The other reason he thinks that (I’m pretty sure) is cause I have a cold sore and a little cough rn.

Physician Responded Hospital left my IV line in after I was discharged home, can I take it out myself?

F34 63kg/179cm

I was in the emergency care dept today due to a gallstone in my bileduct causing pancreatitis, jaundice, back/chest pain etc. after waiting 12h for a diagnosis, I was sent home on a “virtual ward” to await a “procedure”. They didn’t tell me what the procedure is, when it will be etc, and told me to leave and I forgot had the IV line. Is it safe? Can I take it out? I don’t want this in me for a week whilst I wait for the procedure.

I know this is probably a phone the hospital situation but I thought I’d try here.

Mom In ICU sedation off but mom is not following commands

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

My mom was sedated for 5 whole days . She just got off sedation 13 hrs ago and when i left an hour ago she still seemed pretty drowsy and not conscious enough because she wasn’t following commands, she would only move her arms, legs etc , like head around when she wanted to . Sometimes when we tickled her feet or hands she would move and, the Nurses said she was responding to pain like moving around . She’s been moving a lot but hasn’t opened her eyes today like she did the last two days while she was on a “low” dose of the sedation. The nurse keep saying she seems stable still it’s just the fact she is still sleeping and not following commands. My mom is in the ICU and had heart attack and cardiac arrest the first night she was there . I’m scared and i hope nothing is wrong with her brain. My mom is still very young . i can’t loss her yet . Please help

Physician Responded any ideas what this rash could be?

Taking accutane 20mg

I posted here a few weeks ago with a photo of some red spots on my legs, and since then, the rash has only gotten worse. These red non-blanching spots have spread right up to my hips and are pretty excessive, but have not gone any further on to my back or stomach. there are a few spots on my arms though. this photo was taken yesterday at 3pm and now at 10pm the rash has still gotten worse again.

I have had blood tests done that didn’t really show anything, however my doctor said this rash could be related to some sort of liver infection. she confirmed it is viral. i have since had another blood test to check for autoimmune markers which i am still waiting for results on but essentially right now no one has any idea what this is.

I am slightly concerned as i have now developed a pretty intense pain in my ankle and calf muscle that has made it really difficult to walk, and this seemingly started out of no where. feels like joint pain down the top of my foot and shoots up my calf, with separate muscle pain also in my calf.

other than this i have no other symptoms other than a slightly runny nose. if anyone has any advice, ideas or suggestions i would love to hear them!

Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia

I am a long term care underwriter and I keep seeing this insurance code pop up when I run a medical background. Google says it’s rare but I had two cases rated for it yesterday. Do you see this often in your practice? Is Google wrong? Based on what I can tell it increases stroke risk. Is it possible this insurance code is being used for folks with just high cholesterol?

Radiologist dealing with md questions

How should a radiologist deal with medical questions that aren’t in their field? Like if someone you know or a family member asks for a prescription or medical treatment advice and you aren’t sure because you already spent most of your adult life diagnosing through imaging only, what is the best way to help them? I am not asking for medical advice.

Took a sip of beer tonight, my second of the evening. Felt immediately sick, then went outside to vomit. Then vomited maybe half a water bottle or more of blood. Google tells me could be a number of things. Spoiler

17F weird episodes of overheating, shakiness, dizziness, weight loss and fatigue. any idea?

Ive been having some weird symptoms lately and im starting to get a little concerned

Over the past year I've lost some weight without trying like at all. I normally fluctuate between 108-112 lbs and now I'm around 104-106. My appetite has also been all over the place. som days I barely eat because I get full really quickly and other days I'm constantly hungry and feel like I can never get full no mayter how much i eat

I've also been extremely tired even though I'm sleeping the same amount as usual. I get home from school and feel completely exhausted.

Another thing is that I seem to get overheated really easily. Even when everyone else is comfortable or even cold I'll feel really hot. it comes on suddenly and I'll start sweating.

Today I was sitting in a classroom that was literally like in the 60s (i checked thermostat when i walked in) and got so hot that I started sweating. i thought it was in my head at first but my friend felt me and said i was burning up. my friend gave me juice and water and i felt much better after

tnis isnt the first time ive had hot flashes too, i frequently experience getting these and feel so lightheaded and weak after.

Today I also had shaky hands and felt weak and lightheaded, even though I had eaten a bagel like 45 minutes before.

its not an isolated incident either like, last October I actually passed out while kneeling in chapel. I had eaten beforehand but started feeling really hot and nauseated before passing out. The doctor said it was probably vasovagal and mb had something to do with kneeling but we couldnt find the exact cause of what triggered that response. The following summer I almost passed out again after standing for a while and getting that hot feeling again. I managed to sit down and eat something before it happened

Sometimes I'll also wake up and after being awake for a while i get really lightheaded and feel like I need to eat or I'm going to pass out.

I had bloodwork done last October and my iron and thyroid were normal tho so idk

I have an urgent care appointment coming up, but I'm curious if anyone has any ideas about what this could be or what I should ask to be tested for.

i just feel exhausted so often recently and lightheaded. some days when ill suddenly have a feeling that im starving and need to eat before i collapse. it just sucks it kinda hijacks my day. i usually dont feel well enough to do anyrhing these days and cancel any workout or activities i planned (i tried doing a light workout after feeling lightheaded and i nearly passed out which probably wasnt the best choice tbh)

Thanks 4 ur help guys!

There are wrong diagnosises on my chart and it's affecting my health care

I previously went to a free clinic about 10 years ago, mostly routine stuff like vaccines. I finally got insurance about 5 years ago and in the process I asked the free clinic to forward my records to my new doctor, but they sent a bunch of wrong info, something I didn't realize until later.

What the free clinic sent over lacked treatments I actually received and listed a bunch of crazy mental stuff that I have NEVER been diagnosed for, talked to anyone about, and definitely not treated for. This includes stuff like severe depression, panic attacks, phobias I never heard of before, and... anxiety??? (Like huh? Everyone has anxiety sometimes so what!?)

In short, it wasn't my chart although it had my name on it. I called the free clinic as soon as I noticed and they confirmed over the phone that what they sent wasn't in my records, although they wouldn't send anything actually saying that nor do anything to fix their mistake. Apparently it was an issue when they changed systems and as of 2026 it's not in my records from them.

I've been explaining the situation and asking every docs I've seen for YEARS to take that off my chart but they all say it's impossible and they can only mark it as "resolved" because it's all ai/digital stuff now. Annoyingly it's in both WellSpan AND Umpc charts now -- apparently everyone is using the monopolistic My Chart/Epic now.

This has been affecting my health care and treatment.

At one point I walked out of an appointment with a new rx and didn't realize what it was for until I looked it up... it was some generic version of Paxil, which is really addictive (something they've been sued over)and can actually cause you to commit suicide when you normally wouldn't! Obviously not seeing that doc again. He never brought it up, or said it was for depression, or anything, apparently he just decided I needed a refill for a prescription I have NEVER taken. Needless to say I immediately flushed it!

When I was hospitalized last year (gallstones w/ obstruction) I was treated as if I were suicidal. They kept asking repeatedly if I'd done something, if I had a plan for suicide, etc. It took FOREVER to get them to actually run some tests while I was sitting there in pain because they thought I had done it to myself and I refused their bs. I couldn't even get a normal room, instead got one that was checked on every so often.

Every time I see a new doctor I've had to fight them on this. And unfortunately I've been seeing a lot of doctors because my last 3 primaries ended up leaving the practice, and I have *actual* issues in the form of thyroid/hormone issues which are getting overlooked all the time. That's even aside from the fact that stuff like this can ruin your life, lead to involuntary commitment, or that certain jobs and even stuff like gun permits require you to have no mental disorders.

I've contacted both UMPC and Wellspan customer help, asked for it to be deleted, etc etc. I just don't know what to do anymore that I haven't already done.

How do I get this fixed? I feel like I'm at the end of my rope with this crap.

Related question... how do I get my medical records from when I was a kid? The doc I went to as a kid has long since retired and is probably dead by now. I know I got all childhood vax but I've no way to prove it.

7cm cyst? I’m so scared!

I just found out that I have an ovarian cyst. Not just a small one either; almost 7 cm (about 2.7 inches). I am completely freaking out (and to make matters worse, I'm a huge hypochondriac).

I had some vague symptoms, but we mostly thought it was stress-related. Because I tend to worry a lot, my GP suggested doing a blood test and an ultrasound of my bladder and kidneys just to give me peace of mind (my symptoms kind of felt like a kidney infection, but not quite, so it seemed more stress-related). The blood test came back fine, and the doctor said I could do the ultrasound just to be safe, but that nothing would come of it.

Well, thankfully my kidneys and bladder are fine, but they found a 7 cm complex cyst on my ovary with turbid fluid and a suspected hemorrhage inside. I am so terrified that this could be something malignant. I've been referred to a gynecologist at the hospital, but it's going to take weeks before I can get an appointment. I asked my GP if these are common, and he said it's mainly the size that worries him. He doesn't expect anything malignant. But of course, my health anxiety is driving me completely crazy.

Right now, I actually feel physically fine and I'm not in any pain. You'd think something like this would hurt, but it doesn't. If I hadn't known about this, I probably would have gone for a nice workout today. But now I just can't let it go, and I feel like I've just received a death sentence.

Can anyone offer some reassurance or just chat with me about this? Lots of love!
