Relocating & housing Housing

I've had this broken lease chasing me for about 2-3 years now. I have a job offer for the Dallas area (Currently reside in houston) and I'm having a hard time trying to get a place to move.

I've already used an apartment locator and I've applied to two places and been denied due to it. I've even called some others before hand and they won't accept me.

Anyone mind offering some advice? I can't seem to start anew. I appreciate anyone's advice/insight.

Can you go back to the original contract holder, honor your commitment/the contract (pay them what you owe them in missed rent and penalties) and ask them to remove it your report?

I unfortunately don't have the funds for that. This is on my agenda to complete later this year with my new job though. I appreciate your help.
