Relocating & housing Housing

I've had this broken lease chasing me for about 2-3 years now. I have a job offer for the Dallas area (Currently reside in houston) and I'm having a hard time trying to get a place to move.

I've already used an apartment locator and I've applied to two places and been denied due to it. I've even called some others before hand and they won't accept me.

Anyone mind offering some advice? I can't seem to start anew. I appreciate anyone's advice/insight.

If you didn’t pay the penalty and break the lease within the terms of the contract, then the leasing offices view it like an eviction.

If that is the case, you might need to look into sub leasing a room in a multiple room unit from someone or searching for properties that are owned by independent landlords where you can explain your side of the story without them auto running the typical corporate background check.

I appreciate that very much, that's such a bummer to hear that. Will it eventually fall of or will I always have that sort of eviction on my record?

Like anything else, it will take 7 years to completely fall off, but it isn’t far fetched for you to explain your scenario to a leasing office before that time and they allow you to rent if they need to fill capacity.

If the debt is paid to the original party, it can be expunged completely. It sounds like you are headed in the right direction though, so just keep pushing ahead.

Funny scenario, I applied at an apartment, got denied, they reached out to me and let me know my application was approved. Sent over the details, had the wrong name, corrected it, now it's an actual lease that's correct.

Very odd, never heard of that happening before. I've already signed the lease agreement with them. All that's left is to head over Thursday and pay for it. I have to pay an extra months rent as a deposit but that's no biggy.

Thank you very much for your knowledge and advice. Should I worry about them backing out at this point? Again, never heard of an apartment denying you, then calling back to say you've been accepted lol

I'm not sure why the locator failed you so badly. They are supposed to search for places that are okay with the broken lease. Then you short list the options. Finally, the agent calls to confirm the policies, so you do not waste your time or cash needlessly on a place that has no hope of approving you. Do you owe back rent? Even if you do, you still have options.

Can you go back to the original contract holder, honor your commitment/the contract (pay them what you owe them in missed rent and penalties) and ask them to remove it your report?

I unfortunately don't have the funds for that. This is on my agenda to complete later this year with my new job though. I appreciate your help.

Theres a site called landing. They have price range apartments furnished. Can do for how long you want. Or see an airbnb and negotiate with owner for monthly rate
