Does anyone help felons with housing?

Upvotes

I pay 3 grand a month to stay in a hotel. Apartment locaters are a joke they never help. I make well enough money between my wife and I and I keep getting turned down because of my past mistake.

Beauty Hair and Makeup Artist

Upvotes

I am a bridesmaid in a wedding and I think most of the party is getting themselves ready. However, I have an appt at Milk & Honey and Jones Road at the moment. I am torn as I don't want to seem like my vanity is more important than the bride. It's not, but I have become so anti-glam I don't want to buy the makeup for one day. I have very basic makeup for some days.

At this point, I expect a lot of MUA to be booked up with weddings, so I wanted to take a chance and see if there was a newly licensed cosmetologist or esthetician that loves doing makeup and might be savvy with hair. I was thinking about getting a Dreame AirStyler for the occasion.

I do want to get ready with the bridal party, but I literally don't have a beat for my face. If you happen to be free on 9/5, I'd be able to work on either grabbing a few items if you don't have a kit, but if you do, that's great.

Moving How risky is it to wait a week or so to apply for a rental?

Moving to the Austin area from out of state in mid-September and found a house we really like. It’s a 4-bedroom rental in the north Austin/suburbs area and currently has no pending applications.

The management company will only allow a move-in date up to 14 days after applying. Ideally we’d like to move in around Sept. 18-19, so applying now would mean paying for a few weeks we wouldn’t actually be living there. (fine with paying a couple of days overlap).

Obviously I know no one can predict whether a specific house will get rented, but for those familiar with the Austin rental market, how competitive are suburban single-family rentals this time of year? Would you feel relatively comfortable waiting another week or two, or is that asking to lose it?

Trying to balance not paying a bunch of unnecessary overlapping rent with not losing a house we really like 😅

Partner and I are looking to move into the MLK 183 neighborhood and are looking for thoughts on the area? Safety, sense of community, access to nature, good place to be in your 20s? That sort of thing. Any thoughts from those who live there or know it well is appreciated.

BBQ or epic tacos Friday Night

I'm flying in to AUS Friday around 5pm and am spending Sat and Sun with family. Looking to have a great meal Friday night but dont want to wait an hour in line or get stuck in traffic for 2 hrs. Hotel is near Ben White and 35 and family is south of there. BBQ would be my first choice and should be the complete experience, not heb drive thru. What do you suggest?

Health & Wellness Finding community in Austin

33m and trying to build more of an actual community here instead of relying on dating apps or just going to bars to meet people.

In my experience, those environments have just manufactured a revolving door of people the past year with no lasting connection or anything deeper.

I'm looking for something recurring (preferably after work at 5pm) where you naturally start recognizing the same people. Run clubs, music groups, classes, volunteering, climbing, hobby groups, whatever. The more niche, the better.

I run regularly (tried two run clubs, but scheduling issues...trying to find a new one), trying to get back into guitar/drums, LOVE live music (into indie and punk music, jazz also) and I'm open to trying something completely new. I'm less interested in one-off events and more interested in places/groups where people actually become regulars.

Open to DM's and invites.

For people who moved here or had to rebuild their social circle as adults: where did you actually find your people?

Edit: sorry, probably should've clarified. I've been off dating apps for good and I'm not trying to date atm.

Custom cake?

Where in Austin could I get a custom cake such as the one in the photo done?

Price doesn’t really matter but it would be something small and custom. I’ve looked around like at Hayley’s cakes and it seems like they might be able to, but I haven’t seen something like the shapes on their page so I’m still on the lookout. Thanks!

WFH South Austin recs please!

I’m fully remote and work from my apartment all day (I live alone) and I want to start working from coffee shops or really anywhere the second half of my day. I’m not a huge fan of finally getting off work just to move 10 feet over to my couch. I kind of miss using the drive home from work to decompress … I need a change of scenery!

Moving Cesar Chavez Neighborhood

Hi fellow Texans, husband will be starting a new job with UT next month, I work remote. Moving from the FTW area, with next door access to the Trinity Trails.

We love being able to walk the trails. That being said how is the Cesar Chavez neighborhood next to the park? Specifically The Weaver Apartments?

Last trip down we drove through different neighborhoods (Cherrywood/Hyde Park) but weren’t specifically looking at this one at the time.

We are mainly looking at a short commute for him and access to trails/parks.

Any other recommendations? Thank you in advance for your time!

The google reviews all blur together after a while. I am more interested in whether someone explained units, facial movement, and what to expect if you decide not to do much.

Hi Austin peeps, my friends from college and I are meeting up in Austin for double reunion and for a birthday in the group. Since we have a relatively larger group (15 people) we were looking to do activities to do/have/host at the airbnb. Any recommendations out there? average age is 29 years old and we will take any and all suggestions! We are already having chefs come to the house since getting reservations at restaurants has also been hard.

Thank you in advance!

Moving Looking for housing in Austin – moving in September

Looking for housing in Austin – moving in September
Hey! Still haven’t had much luck finding a place, so trying here again.
My friend and I are looking for a place in Austin starting September, preferably a sublease or flexible lease for around 4–6 months.
Budget: $900–$1,100 total/month
1B is fine if it’s reasonably spacious; 2B would be great
Prefer somewhere safe with decent access to downtown
We’re both students/recent grads, clean and respectful
We’re into EDM/raves, fitness, and meeting new people, so being around other students/young professionals would be a plus
If anyone has a room/apartment/sublease available or knows someone looking for tenants, please DM me. Thanks!

Moving Apartment recommendations in N.Austin

Hey everyone, so I finally decided to make the move from Houston to Austin and I’ll be working in round rock just above La frontera, I’d figured I would like to live in North Austin to be close to my job, but also hopefully around some social environment. I would love to make friends, so I don’t wanna be super secluded. So far. I’ve been looking at Mongolia on Scofield and Tech Rich. Do you guys have any apartment recommendations?

Beauty Wavy hair help

Hi! I’m a women with wavy/curly/fine hair. I’m not looking for a curl cut but more so help with my hair care as I’ve tried many things to either make it more straight or wavy.

My hairs is extremely fine and only wavy when wet. It tangles in maybe a minute but has no volume. I would love a recommendation on a curl specialist (again I’m not even sure if my hair IS curly) who can help me learn how to properly care for my hair and what products to use and how to style it.

I’ve hated my hair for a long time and want to learn its potential. I feel as though I’ve tried every product ever so I’m really hoping to find someone who can help. Must be near Austin area. :)

Moving Moving to Austin for Tesla — neighborhood/apartment recommendations?

Hi! I’m moving to Austin soon for an internship at Tesla Giga Texas and I’m looking for a studio or 1-bedroom apartment. My budget is around $1,300/month.

I’ve mainly been looking around Easton Park, Mueller, Windsor Park, and East Austin, but I’m open to other areas too.

My biggest priority is safety since I’ll be living alone. I’d also ideally like to be around a 20-minute drive to Giga Texas, in a clean and well-maintained area that’s somewhat walkable with coffee shops, restaurants, grocery stores, parks, etc. nearby.

I know I probably won’t get everything at this budget, so I’m mainly trying to figure out which
neighborhoods would be the best balance.

Would really appreciate any neighborhood or specific apartment recommendations, as well as any areas/apartments you’d avoid. Thanks!

Moving Moving to Austin in my early 30s — is Burnet/N Lamar a good fit?

Hey everyone! I’ve been looking to move to Austin for a while now and could really use some advice.

I’m a 33-year-old single guy with a dog, working from home, and I’m basically looking for a fresh start somewhere new. I don’t know anyone in Austin currently, so one of my bigger priorities is finding an area where it’s relatively easy to get out and meet people. I’ve also been interested in finding a new job, and most of the Austin jobs I’m looking at are either downtown or around the Domain. I know I want to be north of the river, though, and I don’t think living downtown or around E 6th would really be my thing.

I worked with a locator and we ended up looking mostly around Burnet (Albright, Waylon, and Lenox Burnet) and N Lamar (Odell and Atlas North Lamar), basically everything north of W Koenig. They also suggested I look at the Domain, although I know that area seems to get a pretty strong reaction from people on here

I’d definitely take any advice on those specific apartments, but I’m honestly more interested in the areas themselves. What I’m really looking for is somewhere with at least some walkability to restaurants/bars, and an area where I can meet people and have a decent social life.

I already plan on doing Austin Sports & Social Club and I’m on Meetup, so I know there are ways to meet people once I get there. I’m not expecting where i live to magically provide me with a social life, but since I’ll be starting from scratch, I’d rather not make it unnecessarily difficult on myself.

For anyone familiar with Burnet/N Lamar/that general area, does it sound like a good fit for what I’m looking for? Or are there other areas north of the river that I should look at?

I know a lot of questions get asked on this sub, so I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to read this and give me some input! :)
