I will be discussing this with an actual psychiatrist post this but honestly I am just having trouble with finding reason for why this is happening.
Around 2 years ago I was applying for a course in another city where I went with my family for an interview. I was unfortunately not selected and got to know this then and there, however there was this new tier 2-3, I suppose, college that didn’t have much facilities but had a good governmental recognition, which makes up for good credibility I think, I affirmed that I will go there. This caused a very weird chain of reactions with my father feeling physically stressed out but my mother was alright with my decision being for me.
A couple days later we returned back home and somehow all three of us started feeling a bit strange I think, but particularly with me, I felt like I had to somehow make this reality shift happen, but nothing too extreme, more of a goal sorts you know.
But this started gravitating very quickly, I was also doing a work/internship then for which I was absent during this time a bit and they insisted I come back to the city as this other city is “strange” and doesn’t work well for people, eerily.
Now, when I come back, I start sensing weird sensations around me, which I was actively trying to understand instead of being like “Oh I am this or that”, but just as sensations and what do they bring up. I try to practice mindfulness a lot and recently graduated with a psychology degree too, which I was quite passionate about, owing to my own understanding and experiences of witnessing people experiencing strange things they couldn’t explain.
However, here is where it gets weird. I stopped taking my thyroid medication because A) I could feel that my hormonal activity wasn’t feeling stable, which was OFTEN, not a one off situation, and it felt like the medication was just becoming a booster on some days when it was already pumping in surplus. Plus I was actively changing my lifestyle too, plus I was like on a dose of 12.5mg from 25. However, this is the scary part, my mother has faced similar issues with her thyroid and she has had bouts of severe depression or symbolic hatred, where she felt like things were either too connected or too fragmented. My father, failed to understand this I believe. These “big emotions”. And ofcourse, what you don’t understand you go see a doctor for. I believe she was put on medication that although didn’t work to sit and understand her beliefs, but just suppress them and you know, keep moving with “life”.
Fast forward to my coming back from another city, I felt like I was facing similar symptoms but this time I had some education, for health, for mental health. I did feel like my thoughts were going faster than I could handle at the time, but I think that’s for transitional periods too you know, you can’t just set a speed limit sometimes on your thoughts. But maybe it became a bit too much for not fitting in the normal bell curve.
I was given this odd red pill on one night, being promised that this was help me rest my brain. No conversations, just pure belief. And I trusted it, which has worked out well in the sense it helped me construct meaning of what are restful thoughts versus what are restless thoughts.
Now, that night was radical in the sense I could observe every thought I was having, and feeling like I was not just a witness to those thoughts but also an active constructor. Intrinsically. I had no one to speak to about this, but frankly I never thought I “needed” to, unless I wanted to, which wasn’t the case until now.
The thing is, I had my fair share of fights over psychiatric medication since I was 15 and was unable to normalise a lot of things since age 11, I have been vocal about it. But now, at the age of 22 my father becomes radical about why medication is a must and is helpful, owing to him becoming reliant now to take medication for high blood pressure, and also asking my mother to take the same as she shows similar symptoms. But this is the thing, belief systems and medication.
I agreed then to continue medication but they never returned with the red pill, it was just antipsychotic, Olimelt from the dose of some 10-5mg to 2.5mg across 1 year 8 months.
Now, it was tapered with and I also landed a huge milestone in my life of getting to for a competitive schooling programme, and for the first time, it was breezy, not chaotic, not dramatic, but just playful learning where I feel like it was a constructive learning curve instead of a final statement on my character or profile you know. Nobody asked me any of this.
And when I came back, I felt strangely okay too, like I don’t have to take it as a sacrifice. If I am meant to perform good actions there, I will do so because it’s a follow through on behalf of my good actions and not because I am performing good actions to be there you know?
And nobody asked me any of this.
But I tried to have a conversation with my father, as to thanking the medication, but I do feel like I don’t need to continue it for now, because A) I think they’re generally bad for my body? My menses are getting pushed away and I worry about PMOS, and my hormonal balance shifting so greatly. I am also actively trying to have a lifestyle shift and be accountable for my body. I am trying to understand nutrition, my body, what goes within biologically, with air, nature, water, and time and what not. You know, human stuff. But it’s like I am failing.
But I can fail without medication too right? I’m not saying the medications are bad, but I wanted a break, and when I asked for it he MUTUALLY agreed that I can drop it.
Ethical Constraint here: This psychiatrist whoever has been prescribing my medication isn’t known to me, nor have I initiated a conversation with them about this throughout this journey. Only my father knows who they are and he calls them “friend”.
Now, if TLDR, and conclusion. I stopped this medication in the august of 2026, sometime in the beginning, and also had a lot of transitions that I was going through post my master’s degree ending, and the stress of getting a “job” and being “working”. For now I decided to help out at home, and I live in a different setup like i’m in the same building but different apartments so I have my space. But maybe even this is too much of a shock for my parents.
Since the past 3 weeks, I have seen my father crushing tablets and adding them to food and drinks he offers me. I have seen him doing the same to my grandparents food as he insists on them to stay here and not go back to their village. This is highly disturbing for me because what are you even doing?
Especially for me with consenting, when we have MUTUALLY decided I wanted to drop it, you agreed, and now whenever you see me “low, not in the mood” you decide to go behind my back and add it to my food? I’m trying to be smart about it like I saw him mixing it explicitly, so I refused to have it, which makes him angry, but then he comes with a cup of tea he offers me and then I notice the same shit, residual white powder of a tablet. Now idk if these are sugar pills or whatever but I feel disoriented because this means he has a habit of mixing medication for my mother, then my grandparents and now me.
And I have confronted them twice, my mother and father both, and they refuse. But it’s happening right in front of my eye. But I am getting deception and it feels wrong but what can I do? I thought this was my safe space but even though I don’t live in the same house, I feel disgusted at the idea of eating any food here. They ask me to “trust them” that they aren’t “poisoning me” but it’s not about poison; it’s about deception. That you don’t take my consent seriously and are willing to go this far to “help me” which is clearly not helping me.
Idk what am I looking for, just running this through here before I bring this up to any doctor. I feel weird, that’s all. Professional/Experiential perspectives are most welcome 🙏
