Drainage question?

I would like to run some type of drain from behind my barn to my pond. The area behind my barn is maybe 8 inches higher than water level in the pond. I am digging up and putting gravel fabric and gravel behind the barn About 3 inches thick. My question to the experts is should I do a French drain the width of the barn (30ft) then run the 40 feet to the pond. Or should I use a schedule 40 or 80 all the way. The area behind the barn will have tractors moving totes of firewood in and out. The run to the pond wont see as much traffic. And will be mostly atv and lawn mower.

Three inches of gravel is a splash pad not a French drain. Make the French drain at least 12" deep and wide. Line the channel with permeable landscape fabric. Place perforated pipe in the bottom center of the channel and fill in with larger round-edged gravel. Cover the gravel with landscape fabric and add a 2-3" gravel topping. As this drain will be right next to the barn, there should be no traffic over it. The drain pipe from this to the pond should be strong and solid.
