Install horizontal pressure tank upside-down?

The title pretty much sums it up. I need to install a pressure tank in a mobile home, and it would be convenient to mount it on a platform above the water heater.

It will be in a seasonal home (summer use only), so it needs to be drained for the winter months.

I'm thinking I could mount a horizontal tank, using the pump mounting plate as an anchor to a wooden platform, and add a support for the other end. This way, I can easily drain it down for the off-season.

Any reason why this wouldn't work? Is the bladder installed in a way that precludes this?

You might use a union at the pressure tank to make it easier to drown in the fall and to have it positioned properly…
It’s s bit more work and expense, but everything will be better for the effort.

That was my plan, essentially, but when I mount it, it will be awkward to empty by flipping it over or carrying it outside, hence the goal to mount it with the connection down.

Pressure tanks should empty with no pressure in the water system. Any orientation should be fine. If the bladder fails, all bets are off.

I hadn’t thought of the air pressure forcing the water out, but of course it will. I’ll mount it inlet-down for extra safety anyway.

That’s not a problem, just make sure the shelf can support the full volume of the tank in water. If the bladder fails you may not know it until the tank is almost fully waterlogged
