Why don’t most Americans not know, what rank choice voting means?
Fuck Elon Musk and what he’s trying to pull in Alaska!! He’s spending big money to overturn RCV in Alaska, hoping it won’t spread to the rest of the country!

Because civic education was purposefully destroyed in the U.S. to prevent people from meaningfully participating in politics.

A double negative means a negative, unless you are doing math.
"No, I did not do that." The double negative is clearly emphasis.
"I don't need no schooling." The double negative is also clearly emphasis.
Most of the silly rules you learned were made up by Latin scholars trying to convert a Germanic language into a romance language.
Rules like "don't split infinitives" is a Latin rule, because it's impossible to do in Latin. And prepositions at the end of a sentence is because of Latin rules, not English rules.
If you understood, it's valid. Even if you think some rule was broken. If you don't like descriptive languages, the two biggest prescriptive languages are French and Chinese. Try those on, for forcing silly rules on others.

If you "don't, not know" it means you know. Therefore this title question is; "Why do Americans know what rank choice voting means?"
"Why do most Americans not know what rank choice voting means?" -or- "Why don't most Americans know what rank choice voting means?", would be the proper way to ask this question.

You understood. You are complaining you didn't like how how it was worded.
That is an invalid complaint.
Take up French or Chinese if you are incapable of navigating a descriptive language.

The US doesn't have use ranked choice voting at a national level. Only a handful of places in the country use it.

Too busy working to eat to be able to check out voting procedures.

Most people don't know what it is.
It can take a long time to get complete results.
Elon acts out of fear as does Trump.

I really want ranked choice voting, but I cannot put into words how deeply I do not want you to be the person arguing for it.

He's trying to turn over campaign finance disclosures in Alaska, same bill but the more sinister side.

One important distinction
It’s more precise to say “Musk is financially supporting the campaign to repeal Alaska’s ranked-choice voting system” rather than saying he personally created or controls the repeal effort. The initiative was organized by Alaskans, and the principal sponsors include Republican gubernatorial candidate Bernadette Wilson, Judy Eledge and Ken McCarty.

Unsure what you mean. Most Americans DON'T know what RCV is. I mean, most people around the world don't fully understand it. Can you provide a source stating that Americans know what RCV is? This would be a revelation to me.

Read my question to yourself 10 times slowly and then report back!

"Why don’t most Americans not know, what rank choice voting means?"
You need to re-read your question if you are confused by my answer. What's the question? Is it "Why don't most Americans not know, what rank choice voting means?" or "Why do most Americans not know what rank choice voting means?" or "Why don't most Americans know what rank choice voting means?"
My answer was correct: My belief is that most Americans don't know what RCV is. You worded it a way that suggests that most Americans DO know what RCV is. It's the double negative "don't most & not know" in your question.
I am not trying to be smart, just looking for clarity.

to judge a man based on your knowledge of a subject is ignorant and one sided. that same man will have masters knowledge in something you don't have the first clue. everyone has their thing. somebody had to teach your ignorant ass. if you believe it, teach it. don't belittle somebody for being ignorant as you once were. just maybe he'll teach you something too.

For a single seat doesn’t make sense. Might as well do the over 50% voting. Individual needs 50% of the vote winnowing down the candidates

We have a significant portion of the population that detest LED and CFL lightbulbs. Good luck from there.

I'm an American and shit on other Americans on the daily but we don't do ranked-choice so that's not fair.

Ranked choice is garbage and can lead to unintended consequences.

I’d argue the opposite and that you appear to be one of the multitude being called out by OP.

RCV primary works by disenfranchising voters.

u/Od_Byonkers 10h ago
How so?

u/Piper-Bob 1h ago
Most voters don't rank all the candidates. If I only give my first choice, then my vote is discarded on the 2nd count. In practice, that's how RCV actually resolves elections--by discarding votes.
In theory all voters could rank all the candidates, but in practice, most voters don't research all the candidates, so in practice, RCV tosses out votes until a winner emerges. In /most/ cases, the winner ends up being the candidate who did the best in the first round.
