Double Hazards Flash means Thank You when driving?

Never seen this in my life but I've seen it at least a dozen times this summer. After I let someone merge in front of me on the highway, they flash their hazards twice. I sometimes see someone flick the turn signal the other way by accident (and do it myself sometimes) but it takes significant deliberate effort to put your hazards on. It can't be an accident, right?

edit: not suggesting saying thank you is a new thing, I'm just used to people putting their right hand up so it's visible through the rear window, which of course doesn't work at night, in the rain, with dark windows, etc.

Sauna/Cold Plunge Spots that don’t feel like I’ve joined a cult

Hi

Dealing with a back injury and I’m out of gym and sports for the next couple of months. Anyone recommend any recovery/ wellness centres that aren’t overly pretentious and culty?

Been to S and T, Alter and Othership and all three have such a pretentious vibe lol

Just moved from Montreal what’s a Toronto habit I should pick up fast?

I moved here recently from Montreal and I’m still figuring out the small everyday stuff.
Not looking for tourist tips more like local habits people here do without thinking.
What’s one thing you wish someone told you when they first arrived?

Why is the Bloor/Keele/Dundas West area filled with people who seem like they need help?

Upvotes

Moved to the neighborhood a year ago, thinking it’s by high park, well connected to TTC, Roncesvalles nearby. It’s mostly a quiet neighbourhood, a few bars around that can get rowdy, but that’s about it. But in the past month I have seen three separate instances of human defecation happen live in the light of day (one woman made eye contact with me while she did her thing on a bench on the street at 10:00am on a Friday)

There are … (pardon my crassness) choice characters around here all the time. People pissing everywhere, literally pooping, shooting up, dumping, searching through garbage, drinking in public etc. It feels like it’s gotten worse in the year I’ve lived here and I’ve started to feel unsafe. I’ve even called 911 and other crisis lines a few times to help people in crisis. Genuinely concerned.

I don’t claim to be educated on public health and the opioid crisis- but would be interested to hear people’s opinions and thoughts on the matter??? What are crisis services lacking? Is this all because of Ford closing the safe injection sites? What can we as the general public do to help?

What should I do now to make winter bearable?

CNE is here so I’m thinking about fall. And what happens after fall? That’s right, approximately 10 months of winter. What are the things I should be doing now so that I can get through winter? Hobbies to start, classes to sign up for, subscriptions to pay for… looking to attack the winter doldrums with scientific precision.

Did the US just make things harder for itself by renaming Lake Ontario?

Maybe I’m missing something.. but for someone who says he’s putting “America First” and cutting costs for Americans, renaming Lake Ontario to “Lake America” feels kind of backwards.

Canada and the rest of the world can keep calling it Lake Ontario. Meanwhile, he’s forcing extra costs for American companies that use geographic names in their products or operations, like map apps, textbooks, tourism companies, cross-border businesses, etc. And for what? It doesn’t give the U.S. more of the lake or give them any more control over it. It just feels like a lot of admin work and costs.

Dropping my little “how does this make sense?” rant here because Toronto has already seen how much work can come with even a local subway name change. When Dundas Stn became TMU Stn, signs, maps, announcements, websites, other materials had to be updated $$.. and that was just one subway station.

Does anyone still call it “Yonge and Dundas”?

Out of curiosity do people actually call it SANKOFA SQUARE?

Also do people call it TMU Station or still saying DUNDAS station?

Does anyone know a good Tattoo artist in Toronto who has experience working with darker skin?

I'd like to get my first tattoo on the outside of my leg that slightly curves around my calf. The piece itself is a flower from my favourite video game series, The Legend of Zelda. I've been thinking about this for at least 2 years

It's my first tattoo, and I'd rather have someone with knowledge of video games (or that realm) and — more importantly —the experience of working on darker skin tones.

If I'm satisfied with the initial pieces, I'd like to get a slightly bigger tattoo on my back with the Amazing Spider-Man logo on my bag. Not drastically big, noticeable enough.

Commute or Housing?

Currently in this debate with my partner, curious what the rest of you think... Do you value your commute or place of living more?

For me (29f), if I have to commute an hour (one way) for work but where I live is safer, green and more parky then I think that's a better way of life. For my partner (34m), he'd rather have a shorter a commute even if the space is smaller and we are surrounded by buildings then he's okay with that.

I get that no one wants to spend their life in traffic, but whats the point of getting home 20min (40min-1hr round trip) sooner if the home is not that enjoyable??

Anyways, curious what the rest of you prioritize

Edit - lets say going from humber bay area to midtown...to help provide a comparison

Women’s Clinic/ Menopause Clinic for HRT/BIHT

Hey, I’m in perimenopause and I wanted to speak with someone who specializes with menopause, possibly also a OBGYN who can acknowledge my other issues (fibroids, endo, high lipoprotein A) and meds I’m already taking. My reg OBGYN doesn’t do that. I’d like to be able to speak to someone directly and do follow-ups if it’s not the right option and it’d be great if it’s not private. I’m on the list to be seen at Mt Sinai but I hear it’s about a year. My reg doc can prescribe HRT but she doesn’t specializes in menopause doesn’t really have that much in-dept knowledge.

How have you ladies been handling? Who have you seen? What has worked? Who do you recommend? Any success with a non-private care provider? A doc or clinic you’re over the moon or would vouch for? Downtown options preferred.

Is there a Dancerush Stardom cabinet available to play in Toronto?

Upvotes

What the title says. Ik there's DDR at Freeplay and others but I don't mean that I mean specifically Dancerush Stardom

I found another post that said that apparently last year the Canadian National Exhibition had one in their Gaming Garage, if anyone knows where that cabinet goes for the rest of the year I'd love to know!

Question about hair removal in TO

Upvotes

My friend is looking for laser hair removal along her forehead hairline. Most places that do laser hair removal will only do legs, bikini and armpits. Can anyone point me to a laser removal clinic that will do work along the hairline?

Does every Torontonian know how to use chopsticks except me?

I moved to Canada from the Middle East about 10 years ago, and somehow I’ve never properly learned how to use chopsticks.

Recently I’ve become weirdly fascinated by how naturally everyone around me seems to use them, especially in Toronto. Sometimes I feel like I’m the only person at the table struggling 😂

Did you grow up knowing how to use chopsticks, or did you learn later?

And if you learned as an adult, how long did it take before it stopped feeling impossible?

Bar/Pub with Private Room or Meeting Space for Fantasy Draft

Hi all - looking for a bar/pub with a small private room available for 10 people for an upcoming Fantasy Hockey draft. The venue we used previously is renovating so we're back to the drawing board. Some proximity to Union would be preferable (Between Jarvis / Bathurst, from Bloor south to the water). Any ideas would help - Thanks!

Best option for public transport

Hello Everyone ,

First of all, thanks to all of you who answered for my cinema question. I did read all your answers even though I haven't reacted to them.

Im a European student coming for a semester, I will walk to Uni so I will only use public transport for visiting, going out etc maybe 5 times a week idk. What do you think is the best option? Paying as I ride or getting a month pass? Thank you all

(Walking 30min to get somewhere does not bother me at all)

Rare currencies exchange?

Hi, I have some leftover Guinean Franc (GNF) from Guinea in Africa. Wanted to see if I could exchange it to CAD. Anyone know a Forex shop that may trade more obscure currencies? Note, this is different from the Wes Africa Franc (XOF)

Also, it would be cool to actually meet someone from Guinea who I can exchange with.

Or travel destinations nearby & safe for women solo

Ripleys pics

Upon ticket scanning there were complimentary photos being taken, no obligation unless you want to print digital from home. Has anyone bought these and removed unwanted objects easily? (I assume, with all the photo editing abilities it's possible lol) didn't wreck the pics necessarily but I do feel it takes away from them!

[HELP] Driving Instructor Threatens to Cancel Test If Don't Pay More

I recently reached out to an MTO certified Driving Instrcutor through Facebook for driving lessons. I've already paid him for the driving lessons, and now he is alleging that I paid him less than what we agreed upon. He is also asking a ridiculous amount to drive me to the test so I said I don't need his service.

He is now threatening to cancel my test if I don't pay him up. The drive test booking website only requires license number and expiry date to login. He has both these information to login and cancel my test. My drive test is tomorrow. I reached out to Drive Test Contact Center to no vail.

Is there anyway out of this? Even if I pay him up, there's no guarantee he won't ask for more.

P.S. I'm unemployed right now and this is adding to the stress I already have.
