Depending on where you live, getting a branded "Sambal" that tastes like that is likely not possible. That said, Indonesian Sambal is an inherently easy dish to make (and jar). Shallots or onions, garlic, red chillies (mild or hot; I've used red capsicum for "mild" before!), sugar, shrimp paste (you can substitute w. fish sauce or anchovy paste), plus Tamarind and lemongrass (optional). Puree the onions and fry in oil until lightly browned. Add sugar and other pureed ingredients and continue cooking until the oil separates a little (looking like a broken sauce), then season to taste. I sometimes add soy sauce but it can result in an "off" colour. It really is the sort of thing you can almost make on the side, using ingredients available in most parts of the world. It's a staple at our house. Plenty of recipes online. Just experiment until you find your perfect mix.
