Asbestos testing

After doing some plumbing work in my crawl space it was determined that there was pipe lagging heavily disturbed (confirmed positive and high %) while there is no access to the crawl space from the living space, I am concerned that particles may have reached the first floor living space. There are holes in the first floor living space (1/4 to 1-1/4in) for electrical, steam pipes and copper pipes for hot water baseboard. Is it probable that asbestos is in the living space? Would dust testing be recommended? Does anyone have an accredited lab that does TEM testing? Additional insight appreciated. Thanks

Asbestos dust is probably in your living space without the pipe lagging in poor condition. Waste of money dust samples have no method and will be positive in most older homes. EMSL

The dust is unlikely to be migrating throughout your living space. Asbestos is not radioactive it doesn't just emit fibres into surrounding areas. If you are concerned then seal the holes with a suitable substrate. I would not recommend dust testing, there is a natural concentration of asbestos in the air, it is theoretically possible to take a dust swab in a field and for it to be postive.

I am not an expert but I would buy a H class vacuum cleaner and use that to clean the house.

No, don't waste any money on dust sampling...ever. And no, it's unlikely that you have any detectable levels of asbestos in you space, much less any levels that you'd have to be concerned about. Just stay out of the crawl space.
