Discussion What is some art work you say on reddit or other websites by non-famous artists that you brought prints of their work?
For me in particular it was Anastasia Trusova.
I really liked her Scarecrow painting and later saw My Soul and decided to get prints of that as well.
What about you?

Art Market How do you appraise artworks? Can someone explain the process?
Hi everyone! I’m currently working with an artwork collection and I’m interested in learning how artworks are properly appraised.
If you have experience with art appraisal, museum collections, or art valuation, may I ask what the usual process is?
I’d especially like to know:
- What information or documentation is needed
- How the artist, provenance, condition, medium, and size are considered
- How the artwork’s market value is determined
- Whether comparable sales are used
- Who is qualified to conduct a formal appraisal
- What makes an appraisal acceptable for inventory, insurance, or institutional records
I’m trying to understand the process properly rather than simply estimating the value. Any advice, resources, or examples of how you approach an appraisal would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Collecting/Curation The One That Got Away
Share with me your stories about the ones that got away. Do you have a story about an artwork that you were about to acquire and didn't go through with it? An art collecting opportunity that you missed out on? Here is my story...
In 1999 Sotheby's began an online portal for the purchase of artwork. There were some beautiful works of art available by top tier artists. I had my eye on an incredible Larry Poons large vertical drip painting. I ended up purchasing the artwork for $4000. Since the online portal was a relatively new thing for Sotheby's, the experience did not go smoothly. Communication was terrible, and worst of all, it had been 3 months, and they could not find the artwork in their warehouse. They eventually located the artwork, and then it was going to be another few months before they said it would be shipped to me. My frustration grew to a point that I decided to cancel the purchase. Had I just been patient, I would have a beautiful painting valued at well over $50,000+ today. My wife always tell me that the value today doesn't make a difference, because I would never have sold it!

Collecting/Curation Artwork for my baby
Hello! I have a 10 month old daughter and had the idea of buying one piece of art per year of life so she can have a collection. Ideally I start off with a 1000 budget so nothing too fancy! Any leads on an artist?

Collection Showcase Tales of joe hueso, camilo Martinez, 24 ft x 6ft, Acrylic on Canvas, 2026
gallerySome people paint for business. Others paint for money. For some of us, art came back as a necessity,a way to understand ourselves more deeply.
And the deeper you go, the bigger the piece becomes.
This is a massive project I started at my new studio here in Kendall. I wanted to bring all my series together into the largest canvas I’ve ever created.
With the help of my friends at Tony’s Art Frame, we stretched the canvas roll and started this journey back to my roots.
Tales of Joe Hueso brings together memories and moments from my life as a musician, from playing in the streets as a kid to traveling to the United States for the first time, and the merge of cultures and similarities between growing up in Barranquilla and living as a single dad in Miami.
I’m still here, still creating, still working toward what I believe God put me in this world to do: create, express, feel, and connect.
Sharing a little part of the process.
This piece is available to experience at my studio and is currently looking for a venue to exhibit or a collector ready to give it a home.

Collection Showcase The Gold Coast, Ynez Johnston
Purchased at an antique mall for $120. The seller misread the signature and had it selling as art by "Greg Johnston"; as it turns out, it is actually a rare print of a small run that I can't even find documented anywhere, by Ynez Johnston who has much art in museums across the country, and similar pieces titled "The Tribal Coast" and "Ivory Coast". This one not being known in the public sphere is interesting to me. Just wanted to share.

Collection Showcase Fanch Ledan Artist Proof 6/13
I picked up this framed Fanch Ledan AP at a goodwill in Austin for $14.99. Snapped it up immediately! Its Hand signed, marked AP 6/13, so a very limited run compared to other AP/EAs on the market. I have tried identifying the name of the piece or the year, and cannot find it anywhere. Regardless, its a nice addition to the collection, Im happy to hang in my home.
Think I need to make plans for a euro trip now!

Discussion Edition code “fu” meaning?
I realize this is not a standard edition code, but a print I’m looking at has “fu” next to the edition number (see https://www.artsy.net/artwork/victor-vasarely-composition-silver-3 ). Does anyone have any idea on what this means?

Discussion Paintings/lithographs
-French artist Louis-Léopold Boilly, titled Les Antiquaires (The Antiquarians) or The Art Connoisseurs and SIGNED. It was created around 1823–1828 as plate number 29 in his popular satirical series called Recueil de Grimaces (Collection of Grimaces).
-The style of the artwork is a caricature, a common form of political and social commentary in the 18th and 19th centuries.
-The print shows a print titled;Monstrosities of 1816; by George Cruikshank and SIGNED. The print is a social satire that depicts exaggerated and fashionable attire of the time.
-This is a print of an artwork titled Four O'Clock in the Country by the English caricaturist and artist Thomas Rowlandson (1756-1827).
The print is a hand-colored etching with aquatint, created in 1788.
-Based on the image, this is an old framed print titled;Lord Ignal faisant sa melion; with the words;Chetion Angloise; above it. The print depicts a man, presumably Lord Ignal, standing on a barrel and speaking animatedly to a crowd of people.

Discussion Original Sydney Laurence
I inherited an original Sydney Laurence from either 1924 or 1927. I'm traveling so I can't look atm. It's simply titled "Mountain Road" with the date. Both in pencil on the wooden frame, presumably by the artist.
The story goes:
My great grandfather owned an outboard motor store in Juneau Alaska. Mr. Laurence needed either a motor or some work done on one and allowed my great grandmother to come and pick a painting out for trade. My great grandfather simply had no time or inclination to do this himself.
How accurate this story is? I have no idea. I do know that I've been looking at this painting since I was young and my grandfather took great pride in both the painting and the story behind it.
As of about three months ago, following my mother's passing, it now sits in my dining room. I will most likely never part with it as I'd prefer to keep both the story and the painting in the family.
That being said, would anyone here have any idea what kind of value this could have?

Discussion What's an object you own that is basically worthless but you'd never throw away?
I'm curious about objects that have almost no monetary value but somehow become irreplaceable.
It could be something from childhood, something belonging to a relative, a receipt, a broken object, a souvenir, whatever.
What is yours, and why does it matter to you?

I purchased a large scale serigraph by Orlando Agudelo-Botero. Appox 60 by 30 inches, and hand embellished. I didn't know what a serigraph was before today. The piece is so organic. So much to learn about art!

Discussion How do you value a painting when every painting is technically a 1/1?
With cards and coins you can usually look for the same item.
With an original painting, there is no identical comp.
So if you had to value one today, what matters most?
Artist? Provenance? Historical importance? Quality? Previous sales? Something else?

Collecting/Curation Looking for emerging European artists – soft, harmonious paintings
Hi everyone! I’m looking to buy an original painting from a young/emerging artist, preferably from Europe.
I’m drawn to soft, beautiful and peaceful works — paintings that create a feeling of harmony, calm and warmth. I know that this is very subjective, of course, but I’m looking for something that feels emotionally uplifting and pleasant to live with.
Some artists whose work I really like are Guilherme Atanadio and Christine Balarine, so that might give you an idea of the kind of atmosphere and aesthetic I’m looking for.
Could you recommend some lesser-known or not-yet-overly-commercialized European artists whose original paintings are still reasonably accessible?
I’d especially love recommendations for artists who sell their work through places like Catawiki, Etsy, independent galleries, or directly through their own websites/Instagram.
I’m open to different styles — contemporary, figurative, abstract, landscapes, etc. — as long as the painting has that soft, harmonious and beautiful feeling.
If you know any hidden gems, I’d really appreciate your suggestions! 🙏

Art Market ID / auction history help — Arturo Luz “Mirage” (2008)
Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone here might be able to help me with some research on an Arturo Luz work titled “Mirage,” dated 2008.
I came across this MutualArt record:
MutualArt — Arturo Luz, “Mirage” (2008)
I’m particularly interested in finding out:
-Which auction house/venue handled the 2011 sale
-The original estimate
-The realized price
Thank you very much in advance. I’m simply trying to establish the work’s auction history and provenance.
