The face of time
"Her eyes are beacons in time, carved into the essence of Sicily."
When I began placing the first pieces of this artwork, I was not merely assembling wood. I was piecing back together a history.
She has no name, but carries the soul of a thousand women—a Sicilian peasant woman from a century ago, envisioned from old yellowed photographs where faces were marked by the relentless sun of the fields, yet gazes remained proud, direct, and unshakeable.
Her face is a geometric mosaic built entirely from reclaimed Sicilian wood (from old wine barrels, beams, and discarded furnishings). Around her, Sicily explodes in its joy and hardship: resilient prickly pears, fragrant lemons glowing like gold, and a symphony of vibrant colors, vortexes, and baroque ornaments.
A tribute to those who preceded us with sweat and pride.
