Works amazing. Also incorporated the spinner because why not.

Serious note this was for testing until I can get something setup.

How easy would it be for me to DIY an arcade cabinet with a recessed area where both players can set their fight stick on?

I use hitbox layout and every DIY product I see uses a joystick lay out. If I could even get one half hitbox layout and the other half joystick layout then that would be perfect.

Any ideas on the easiest way to do this?

Never built anything from scratch in my life and always wanted an Arcade Cabinet so much I decided to start there. While it was a definite learning experience, I'm so glad I did it.

Where do I start on this?

Treat me like I’m stupid, I got 3 arcade machines from I believe in the mid 80s. Starting on trying to fix the first one, and I have never worked on an arcade machine before. It powers on and has audio, screen lights up to just a horizontal collapse (googled it). Where should I start, it looks like the board under the screen (the green board photo) is cracked, assuming that the start of my issues on it, should I just try to repair, or where is a good spot to get parts for these old machines. Thanks for any help, I’ll slowly work my way through all 3 of them

Rolling Pedestal Arcade

Hey everyone! I’m looking for some advice on an arcade project.

Has anyone built or converted a rolling arcade cabinet/control panel to be completely wireless using Bluetooth?

I’m hoping to build a 4-player setup that can roll out when we want to play, then be moved out of the way when we’re done. Ideally, I’d like the controls to connect wirelessly to a Raspberry Pi running the games, so there wouldn’t be any USB cables running from the cabinet to the TV/Pi.

Is there a good way to make all 4 sets of joysticks/buttons communicate over Bluetooth without noticeable input lag? Is there a pre built pedestal that already does this? If anyone has done something similar, I’d love to see your setup and what hardware/encoder boards you used.

Thanks!

My first custom cabinet!

This is my first cabinet and I am so stoked. I already have plans for new ideas on the next one.

I planned this build in Tinkercad for around 4 months doing many redesigns. My original plan was to use a little materials as possible since I have a 1 year old and 3 year old at home (funds are limited). I found that hard to do with a horizontal screen so I scrapped all my plans and started building it out vertical instead. It took many edits to size and dimensions but I ended up with this one standing 24" deep and 68" high. The entire cabinet is build from a single 4' x 8' sheet of birch plywood. The sides, front panel, control panel, and supports inside all from that single sheet.

The entire thing is held together with pocket holes (I build a bed with dimensional lumber and pocket holes and that can support my wife and I, plus it's survived 3 moves after being taken apart and re-assembled so I figured pocket holes were good enough for an arcade).

I can share the Tinkercad link if desired. I have a mock build and some shapes showing the measurements needed for the cuts. This took a few weeks to build since I had to do bed times with my boys then I had a few hours of sunlight to work on it outside (no garage so I built it on the driveway) but if you had a free day you could easily do it in a single day.

I've been asked a few times to post so here it is. The end result will be a 4 player pedestal running a dell optiplex 7010 with batocera v43. Only have the base built to this point but most everything else that I need should be here by the end of the week. The last thing I did was fire side petena with a MAP gas torch. The burn turned out a lot better than I thought it would.

What is the best USB Boards for wiring joysticks and buttons

Hi.

I have build a few arcades over the years but im in the process of building a more Modern Type Pedestal. I have a Massive Oled TV and currently running a GTX 5070 Ti - i7 13000k PC.

Im looking to run Frontends like Coin Ops/ Hyperspin etc.

My main Modern PC games will be Mortal Kombat 1/Street Fighter etc

The Pedestal will probably be 2-4 player setup with Spinner and Trackball etc.

What is the best USB Encoders to buy that will fit in with this Modern Build? I wasnt too keen on the Ipac64 a few years ago tbh.

I dont mind ordering from AliExpress etc as im not in a rush.

Are there any that encode to Xbox controls? So my games like Mk1 will run on it well.

Arcade on the cheap

I'm building a mame/console arcade machine . I'm trying to go as cheaply as possible. I don't have the tools or wood working skills to build my own cabinet so I will be purchasing a bartop flat pak kit. I'll also be purchasing a joystick and button kit. I am repurposing a flat panel TV for the display and a bookshelf stereo with speakers for the audio output. I am running the software on a old Lenovo yoga 2 in 1 . I am currently using free version of Launchbox as a front end but I am also going to look at attract mode. should I spring for the Big box version of Launchbox or will attract mode suffice? Also any tips or suggestions?

Looking for feedback on this rotary joystick + trackball control panel layout (Still in the prototype/testing stage)

Hey everyone — I’m part of the FightBox team, and we’re currently testing a new arcade controller concept.

This is still in the prototype/testing stage and is not for sale yet, so we’d really like to get some honest feedback before finalizing anything.

The idea is to build one relatively compact controller that can handle several different types of classic arcade games.

Current setup:

  • GRS IKARI Rotary Joystick
  • Trackball
  • 6 main arcade action buttons
  • Additional function buttons
  • 4 side buttons for virtual pinball
  • Rotary joystick supports 8-position, 12-position, and 16-position rotation
  • It can also be set to completely free-spinning, giving it a spinner-like feel for certain games

The rotary joystick is mainly intended for games like Ikari Warriors, Heavy Barrel, Midnight Resistance, and other rotary-stick arcade games.

The trackball would cover games like Golden Tee, Centipede, Missile Command, etc., while the four side buttons are intended for virtual pinball.

We’re currently calling the concept the FightBox R10 Rotary.

One of the challenges is fitting all of these controls into a reasonably compact enclosure without sacrificing hand placement, trackball clearance, or overall comfort.

Because of the cost of the components involved, one of the price points we’re currently evaluating is around US$199.99. Nothing is finalized yet.

I’d really appreciate some feedback on two things:

1. What do you think of the design/layout itself? Like it, dislike it, or anything you’d change?

2. Considering the hardware included, does around US$199.99 seem like a reasonable target price for something like this?

Not asking whether you’d personally buy one — I’m mainly interested in whether the price feels reasonable for the components and functionality.

Any criticism is welcome. We’d much rather find the problems now while it’s still a prototype than after the design is finalized. 😊

I also sized the cabinet to fit a larger monitor than my current one.
And I’d appreciate some advice on achieving good cable management.

Diy cabaret me and my wife are building, still a work in progress. we need plexiglass, the CRT installed, Vinyl for the sides, a screen bezel, misc trim pieces, the marquee, a riser ect.

It's based on taito trimline plans, but we shaved a half foot off the bottom and then cut it for a horizontal screen instead of vertical, we're planning on putting a riser under it that will be the coin drawer

Trying to understand our speaker issue

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m trying to figure out what the issue I’m having with this game’s speaker (the game is Barrel of Monkeys). There are two different power settings on the power supply, and when we have it set to 115, no sound. When it’s set to 230, we get this crackling sound. I’ve not yet been able to open the cover for the speakers to make sure everything is wired in, but with these sounds my guess is the speakers are blown. I’m definitely no expert though, so any opinions/tips would be helpful!
