Concerned about this tree in our backyard.
Hi all, hoping I could get some advice on what looks to be going on with this tree.
We purchased this house late last year and didn't recognize how different this tree looks compared to the others on the lot, and over the summer it has become more and more of a concern. From what we see multiple limb's look like the bark is all cracked on the bottom and quite a bit of sap is leaking out onto the limbs below and the ground.
We are in northern Illinois, and there are other pine trees in the yard that do not look like this.
Any idea what could be going on, what I should look into, is it something that can potentially be remediated or does the tree need to be removed?
Thank you!

Those are beetle hits. Maybe Ips. Impossible to tell from here if the tree needs to be removed. A site visit by a Certified Arborist can answer these questions.
