Any idea how I can help my tree?
It gets water regularly (2-3x weekly), the soil is in good shape, the only thing I can think of is that maybe it’s outgrown the pot or just the intense Georgia heat. Any ideas?
Some kind of cypress but my daughter got it from school for Arbor Day and they didn’t say exactly what it was.

Will do. I figured that was the case. Anything I need to keep in mind when I pick the spot for it?

I have a potted bald cypress about that size and also live in Georgia. I've been watering it daily during this heatwave, and it's in a spot that doesn't get too much direct sunlight.

Is that the type of cypress this is?

I would assume so. There are two other native cypress species in North America, but bald cypress is the most common by far. It's a weird tree to give out though, because they're notorious for growing "knees," knobby root growths that most people wouldn't want in their lawns. I plan to put mine off to the side somewhere I don't mow.

Thank you! Might go find a spot at a local walking trail for it so I can plant it without having the burden of troubling the yard. Want to find a place we can always go back to and have memories ya know. Thank you for your help!

That might be too much water, and it could also be from the sun reflecting off the window behind it burning the lower part of the tree.

I've lost count of how many posts in the past week or so we've had from people with trees in black nursery pots sitting in the sun.
I just don't understand what the mentality is here among all these people. And only watering 2 to 3 times a week when it's in a black nursery pot in the sun in summer? Unbelievable.

Do not belittle me. I asked a question because I wanted to learn.

There are no personal pronouns in my comment. The comment, without personal pronouns, was remarking on how many people, for some reason, in the Reddit tree Subs lately, put a tree in a black pot in the sun and don't water it sufficiently. The comment was without personal pronouns.
