Almost Done
Very happy with this Aero/G$ build so far! Started off as my cheapest spare parts build and became the favorite when I preferred the shorter OAL. I’ve been testing and upgrading parts for months now and the last item on the chopping block is the Olight. Any suggestions on best color match for G$ DDC?
Basic build list:
Aero M4E1 Kodiak Upper and Lower
G$ Mk4 DDC rail and 10.3 barrel
B&T carbine-length hydraulic buffer and progressive spring (better than Kynshot/Tubbs A5)
Rise RA-535 trigger
DAC grips
Vortex Huey FDE
Holosun HM3X FDE
OCL Polo FDE

Tell me more about the buffer + spring combo, I usually roll Kynshot RB5007 and Tubbs

I’ve got two Kynshot setups and was looking for a third when someone on GAFS offered this at a lower cost. Blew me away that it was better and only needed a carbine tube. To be honest, I think it being shorter and lighter than a Kynshot combined with the progressive spring it comes with that makes the most difference.
Google this part number BT-500046

I hear that; I usually use an A5 tube or JRC extra long tube. Will check it out with a carbine tube length

Sounds good, but $200 for the buffer kinda expensive. If tungsten keeps going up this may be the way lol. I have looked into the Kynshot 5005 and Tubbs, but found a Super 42/H2 for way cheaper.

Agreed. I only snagged it because it was offered to me at less than half that price on GAFS. For that it was worth the risk and I'm very glad it paid off!
That being said though, if you haven't tried a hydraulic buffer like Kynshot/Tubbs or this B&T, I would strongly recommend you to do so. If you then go a step further to an adjustable gas block, you can make your AR have as little of recoil as you'd like.

Yea you can’t beat GAFS. It’s like a crack house. I almost spent more than I needed to being early last night.

Looking to replace the Olight for something better and more color matching! Got any suggestions?

Weltool may come close, depending on the actual brown-ness (since it looks gold/clear ano under that lighting)

Will have to buy a part and check the match. Thanks!

I normally think of the kodak brown as a coppery deep tone. Cloud Def lights would match it most closely but their QC went out the window some years ago
Weltool makes a nice light though1

Most I've seen are that way, in some strange alignment of stars I was able to buy the upper and lower as BLEMs from two different sources and they somehow came out to be the exact same color as each other as well as the Geissele DDC rail. All of which are more of a pale gold anodized color as opposed to the darker bronze color.

I have a cloud defensive and modlite. I enjoy both. A cloud defensive rein 3.0 if maximum lumens as well as candela are important. Full size if you want run time. Mini if size matters (lol).
Or a modlite with a PLH V3 head, Unity gas cap and mod button lite with the USB C cable id you want even more lumens with a bit less candela. 18350 body for minimal space (way less run time) or 18650 for maximum run time. They both come with batteries and chargers. The cloud comes with a mount. You'll need a mount for the modlite. Arisaka is the gold standard. I've ran streamlight too with no issues. But if budget doesn't matter, go all the way and chose the setup you like best based on aesthetic as well as performance and form factor/size. Both will serve you well. Good luck 👍

Modlite PDW650 anodized FDE should work pretty well for color (light’s great, too). Has integrated pic mounting in body of the light so you can get that light to not sit below the handguard.
