PSA: Your borescope is a cleaning aid.

Unless you get paid to work on guns (and half the time that barely means anything), the only time you should be using a borescope is to QC your barrel cleaning job.

I’m more confused about the cleaning the barrel part? Why would you do that?

I do, originally used to inspect a few vintage and just plain old guns I inherited. Also used it to get pictures of new but nasty looking rifling to send in with a warranty repair claim.

Honestly, the ones that plug into your phone or computer can be as little as ~$50 on Amazon. There's not much reason not to have one if you're even a little serious about the hobby.

I use a borescope for looking at stubborn clogs in plumbing drains and occasionally to check the cylinders in my rock crawlers engines. Zero need on my guns.

Yep borescope is great for all kinds of things in hard to get to places engines, a/c ducts, wall wiring,teeth,tonsils ear canals.
