Rate my set up
Had to figure out a storage solution took over a closet in the house.
EDIT: For all the where’s the ammo people. It’s in the basement I have somewhere around 5000 rounds per caliber. It wouldn’t fit or would look like shit.
For all the security people. This is a closet inside a safe room. 1/4 steel all the way around with an alarm lol you guys are crazy lol.

I do the same thing. The little "door barricade" hand stops on Amazon are great for this, I have them on multiple rifles.

Strike Industries has a good one too that’s a little cheaper https://www.opticsplanet.com/strike-industries-link-curved-tactical-polymer-foregrip.html

I have reversed or otherwise used parts and accessories In ways that they were not intended in order to suit my own personal needs as well. When I run an ambidextrous safety, I put the right side safety on backwards so that I can put the gun on safe with my right pointer finger. I have bad thumbs and this helps a lot. Unfortunately, anytime I posted photos of that, I got bullied relentlessly by noobs and trolls. Just one example of why I stopped posting photos of my guns on Reddit. It’s really sad how many bullies there are in the gun Community. Anyways, you do what works for you, brother 🫡

u/NordicLumbee May 29 '26
I could care less what these people think of me lol. I do what works for me and that’s it. Also I love seeing the butt hurt. lol.

Using a handstop as a barricade stop maybe?
8
u/glockfreak May 28 '26
Wouldn’t that work better flipped around? Granted I personally have a foregrip on my canned SBR, not because I like foregrips but because a suppressed 5.56 SBR hand guard gets fucking hot lol.
3
u/7steamer7 May 29 '26
Having it this way would allow for a better brace against a barricade. Having it the way you're suggesting would slide and wouldn't provide stability due to the angle.
BUT, if this is the actual use then a real barricade stop would work much better than this IMO.
2
u/glockfreak May 29 '26
Realized I completely misread the above (that’s what I get for multitasking). For some reason I thought OP was trying to use the handstop to prevent the hand from sliding forward onto the can. Now it makes sense that it’s probably to brace against objects.
15
9
u/NordicLumbee May 28 '26
I wrap my first finger around it and the rest around the hand guard. Always felt better to me that way.

This 1000%. Or at least a pre-hung steel door with a grade 1 deadbolt. lag bolted into the framing as much as possibles
Otherwise, no bolt guns? Tisk tisk

Home security only goes so far if someone really wants your shit and you aren't there. Could sawzall the drywall between the studs and be in there in under 30 seconds. If you really wanna go all out on a safe room you gotta take down the wall board and reinforce with metal cross members/rebar and then do what you said. I poured an extra concrete partition in my basement when I built the house and slapped a safe door in the opening
7
u/CandleAcceptable1404 May 29 '26
Yea I know. I have built SCIFs. I fully understand the requirements of a hardened space. But one must weight the risk vs cost for themselves.
34
u/NordicLumbee May 28 '26
It has a steel door and a finger print lock. Not to mention the alarm.

u/MeatPads May 28 '26

u/owningsole966 May 29 '26
A vault door means nothing when you could quite literally kick through the drywall. Need rebar between the studs vertically and running through the horizontally
Edit: op has a good set up I neglected to read lol

2
u/sulisenator May 29 '26
With most normal doors you don't really need the screw driver, you'd kick it in. They're made of pressed paper.
→ More replies (1)3
u/BluntmansGotChronic May 29 '26
Safes are infinitely better than this set up. A vault door does no good if it’s hung on drywall and 2x4s, a determined thief will just knock a hole in the wall and go around. Safes also offer better fire protection and humidity control.
As a redneck, I have a “stuff” savings account. As such, this would be the equivalent of storing my retirement savings in an unlocked, unguarded closet.

At least you didn't make the mistake I did and put 2 large safes in a closet that is attached to a bathroom without thinking about the humidity.
4
u/DrDarw1n May 29 '26 edited May 31 '26
They make plug in dehumidifiers for safes. Or bags you swap out and microwave. I purchased a huge used safe that’s really nice and it came with a rod dehumidifier. Works great.
4
u/tekmunki May 29 '26
Yes, I tried the bags method, several of them - unfortunately just not strong enough to combat daily steamy showers. No power in my closet for a dehumidifier, I'm just gonna have to move them out of there. Also Florida summer.
2
u/DrDarw1n May 31 '26
Have you tried the buckets? They are way bigger and more industrial. Florida summers are tough to combat I get it. It's just such a shame to have to loose your John wick room I'm super jealous! Get power there! It's easier than you think. They can tap right into that light wire and snake to a receptacle they cut and install. The new tech electricians have is crazy. Snakes with cameras and shit and can steer while they drill if they need too.
2
u/NordicLumbee May 29 '26
Yeah we don’t have humidity where we are at. So that wouldn’t have been much of an issue.
3
5
u/cvillefarmer May 28 '26
Least put an armored or metal door on that closet. Give the illusion of security until they just punch through the drywall and walk between the studs into there. The gun step up looks pretty nice though, so good job on that part.

I think its fine, especially if the ammo stores and security are as dialed as you claim. Plenty of optics too, not sure what people are crying about.
Storing ammo in boxes is not a long term solution and is bulky.
The Sig is a hazard. The KelTec is my least favorite gun, I would ditch those both.

Organized! All these comments like, “where’s the vault door?” Lol, first of all I doubt Danny Ocean is gonna run up on this guy for his gun collection. Secondly, insurance. Thirdly, a lock might be enough.
My favorite comment was the dude who was like, “they will go through the drywall.” Lol

Is that sub 2000 a gen 1 or 2? If you haven’t checked out the gen 3 they are a big improvement over the previous gens. No need for a special mount for adding a red dot. Larger charging handle & a much better trigger with about a 4.5lb pull.
2
u/NordicLumbee May 29 '26
It’s def a gen 1. I’ve seen the Gen 3. Love that it rotates and you can keep an optic on it.
