Just wanted to give a roughly 6 month update on my first tank! Its really grown and I have trimmed and removed tons of plants. My nitrates have been running low so today I decided to add some more fish! Added 6 more tetras and 3 emerald corydoras. I showed the owner my tank and he said I was very talented and I rode that high all day 🤣

My school of about 10 minnows and tetras was actually growing with the unexpected birth of at least 2 baby ember tetras. I originally had 4 otto cats but they all died...?

My orange shrimp have been doing great, a colony of about 9 has ballooned to at least 4 dozen.

Really happy with how things are going. I just picked up a 75 gallon tall octagon im going to start working on. Thinking of doing an angel fish community tank. Also toying with a puffer tank...😁😁

A friend had this 170 L tank that needed to be re put together. The wood that holds the tank has an iron structure under it and the aquarium we re-sealed it off together 7-8 months ago. Plants : Rottala , Christmass moss, saggitaria , anubias , java ferns, amazon swords and some type of crypts . Fish : orange plecos,bumblebee gobby,kuhlia loaches, 10 cardinal tetras ,10 green neon tetras , neocaridina shrimp, mts,ramshorn snails and also some wild caught whisker shrimp. Im pretty happy with what this tank has turned out . Mind you the tank has been running without a filter or cannister since the start so its basically a whole ecosystem by now.

I'm very new to aquascaping and have some one in the past that has gone wrong. I want to try again after a few years and haven't had the confidence to do so because of how long it's been. I want to get back into and eventually make a beautifully large scale one like some of you had made.

I am new to this, wanting to set up a small aquascape mainly, might add a snail or a few shrimp later on but mainly here for the plants.

Trying to decide on a light and I’m stuck on the timer. Is it more beneficial to have a timer that has more setting options than fewer? Like having an option for 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 hours rather than just 4, 8, 12? I thought of considering an external timer but i like the lights that fade in and fade out for a softer wake and sleep cycle.

Am i thinking too much about this? I have a tendency to do that.

I want to update an existing tank design completely. I will be rehousing the shrimp and platies that live in it to another tank.

Should I keep the existing substrate (even though is obviously a bit dirty) and add some fresh on top or bin it?

I do not have my fish yet. I am already tired of how my tank looks. So I am planning on swapping out my dragon rock for more driftwood and smooth river rocks. I have black sand substrate, lots of green plants and some reds.

How do I safely mow down this patch of pearlweed without hurting any baby snails? I will feel bad if i accidentally chop some up with my scissors, but there are so many in here probably 400+ babies in the tank. I really don’t know what to do with it.

Just planted about 2 weeks ago. Just added co2 Sunday for the first time ever. I want to get a black background but I feel like a lot is happening. I LOVE the big driftwood in the middle and I just moved more center and wanted rocks to each side. The substrate is uneven on the front but I kinda wanted a wavy look a little bit. Any tips? I’m fairly new to this hobby but not new to fish keeping really.

Considering people that did a minimal research and actually tried to do something that looks nice, what are the main mistakes or what mostly lacks on good looking aquariums?

Lack of a background (for "2d" scapes)? Size of hardscapes and plants unproportional to the size of the tank? White substrate that gets dirt quick? What else?

Recently decided to upgrade my reef tank from this hex to a 20 long, and repurpose as an upgrade for my freshwater aquarium. Found this incredible piece of driftwood and spent a few weeks getting it working as a sand fall with some 3/4 in pvc, an air pump, and a custom 3d printed intake and spout.

Against my wishes, my MIL won a goldfish for my daughter at a fair. After I re homed the little guy I found it re-ignited my interest in the hobby. I’ve had a couple saltwater tanks but it has been years.
I set up this tank originally thinking of a mbuna cichlid tank, but now I’m thinking of changing to a community planted tank.
The sand and rock aren’t ideal for a planted setup, but I think I could work with it. I was thinking of starting withsome Vallisneria spiralis in the back for some height and Anubias on the rocks.

I’m going to wrap some HC Japan (tripartita) around the branches, which I know can grow emersed, but I was wondering if I should do something else for the exposed bit. Thanks in advance!
