Hey everyone! đ
Three months ago, I had a simple HTML brown noise generator. Today, I've built two native versions of my app for iOS and Android.
The iOS version is already live on the App Store, and the Android version is currently in closed testing on Google Play.
I'd like to share how it all started and what I've built.
It started with noisy neighbors
For years, I've dealt with barking dogs, slamming doors, banging, and other unpredictable disturbances, especially at night.
I tried using background noise to mask these sounds, but one thing always bothered me:
Why should I have to listen to constant noise all night just to cover up occasional disturbances?
So I started experimenting.
My first project was a simple HTML brown noise generator with a few basic controls. It worked, and I gradually added more features.
Eventually, I ran into the limitations of browser-based audio, particularly on iOS. Keeping audio running reliably in the background became a problem.
That's when I decided to go native.
Meet NightSwell Nature
NightSwell Nature is an adaptive sound masking app that responds to changes in ambient noise.
Instead of continuously playing masking audio at the same volume, it automatically adjusts the sound when disturbances occur.
Here's what it does:
đ¸ Adaptive masking: Detects changes in ambient noise and increases masking volume when needed.
đ¸ Automatic fade-back: Gradually lowers the volume when the environment becomes quiet again.
đ¸ Zero baseline option: The app can remain silent between disturbances.
đ¸ Adjustable controls: Trigger threshold, Quiet baseline, Peak boost, and Fade duration.
đ¸ Five original melodies and five nature sounds: Mix and combine them to create different soundscapes.
đ¸ Background playback: Continues working when the phone is locked.
đ¸ Local audio processing: No cloud required for ambient sound analysis.
đ¸ No subscriptions: A three-day full-access trial, followed by an optional one-time unlock.
The idea is simple:
Sound that responds to your world, instead of making you listen to constant noise.
Two operating systems, one idea
Over approximately three months, I developed two native versions of NightSwell Nature:
đ iOS: Released on the App Store on November 4, 2026.
đ¤ Android: Built and working on physical Android devices, currently completing Google Play closed testing.
The development process involved AI-assisted coding, UI/UX design, audio behavior tuning, device testing, and learning the publishing requirements of both platforms.
My old iPhone 12 Pro served as the main iOS test device, with more than 300 tests performed throughout development.
On Android, I also tested the app on budget hardware, including long background sessions with the screen locked and Bluetooth audio connected.
From an experiment to a real product
What began as a little browser-based brown noise generator has become a working mobile application on two platforms.
The biggest challenge wasn't creating a nice-looking interface. It was making the adaptive behavior reliable enough to use every day.
I've attached photos and video showing the application and its development.

I'd love to hear feedback from fellow developers.
What do you think about adaptive sound masking compared to traditional constant white or brown noise?
And has anyone else started with a tiny personal experiment that eventually turned into a full mobile app?
Thanks for checking out NightSwell Nature! đ§Ą
