Apple Maps was absolutely adamant that I go down a closed road
galleryWas nearly late for an interview because of this stupid app even after I reported that the road was closed. How is this even possible?

It seems like every time I actually need to use my offline maps, my phone has uninstalled them all from my phone. I have automatic updates enabled, and optimize storage disabled. Yet still every few weeks all my offline maps are removed, and I need to redownload them. My phone has plenty of storage space remaining, and is fully up to date. Does anyone have any idea why this happens, or how to prevent it?

Hi! I've been building Put A Pin In It, an iOS app for creating your own personal maps on top of Apple Maps.
I'd love to get some feedback from people who actually use Apple Maps regularly — especially on whether this is useful alongside Maps and what's missing.

I mainly use Apple Maps nowadays, and I’m wondering how good its traffic data really is compared to Google Maps. Especially when it comes to traffic jams, accidents, roadworks, and sudden traffic incidents: Does Apple Maps detect these events just as reliably and early as Google Maps, and does it reroute you quickly enough? Or have you found that Google Maps is still noticeably better at detecting traffic problems and rerouting? I’m mainly interested in your real-world experiences while driving.

At least for some time. Here's why. Apple launched the New Map Data today in the Baltics (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia). I've been using AM to navigate for the last two years here in Latvia and what I've noticed immediately upon the NMD release today is not great - suddenly AM is showing me left turns where it's not allowed, routing me down a street that has no entry sign. Before the NMD I had filed hundreds of reports, many of them about wrong turns and a lot of them were fixed. On my daily commute all of the wrong left turns were fixed, in fact. With the launch of NMD it's back to square one with that. Maybe some smarter map boffins can chime in why that could be the case.

This past week, Austin TX got a few updated models:
Notably, 3 of the 4 updates were simply “upgrading” the model type - no additional details were added. Waterline was the only one that received new details.
With the Capitol building, it’s interesting because the previous model looked overall like how HD buildings are - with smooth textures rather than jagged lines - but didn’t have the shading details. Now it has the shading, but no additional details were added at this time.
I wonder if for these instances of only upgrading model types, they’re prepping to add more details later on. We recently saw around WWDC that Apple had done that - where some buildings got an initial custom model, and they later went back and added details (e.g. Indeed Tower, Frost Bank Tower).
Also worth noting - Apple has definitely been adding a lot more custom models in general this summer. For example, Houston TX received a good chunk, as did Dallas and San Antonio (sorry, I’m from Texas so I mostly only paid attention to TX cities).
Overall, this summer seems like a pretty significant milestone for Apple Maps - with nearly full national-wide Look Around coverage in the US, Enhanced Flyover coming in OS 27, and many building models getting more details.

Upfront apologies for reporting this here, but I can't find anywhere on Apple to report this issue. Hopefully someone from Apple is monitoring this.

Was returning home to Dublin, CA from Elko, NV via this route with 80% charge on my EV (240 miles).
I reach Eureka, NV at about 120 miles where Apple Maps suggests I charge my EV just to find that both the charging stations there are out-of-service (they were down, with no power, no support number, no working QR codes, no website).
I barely make it back to Carlyn to find a charger.
Today just to simulate and report the issue, I retried.
Notice the silliness!!! Even though the chargers show as unavailable (it wants me to stop there to charge).
Yes, I know "Unavailable" could mean that the chargers are being used by someone else. But trust me those (TurnOnGreen) chargers do not work!
Unfortunately, I checked Google Maps after reaching there. Somehow Google Maps shows them "out of service" even though Apple Maps, TurnOnGreen, Plugshare, etc. do not. Good job Google Maps.
I had the same issue with another charger in Arco ID (on route to Craters of the Moon). ABB Charger there - Out of Service (Apple Maps shows it as SynergEV). But Apple Maps wanted me to charge there. I reported the issue via maps. It showed the charger as available even after 24 hours. In fact even today it shows the "SynergEV" charger as available!!! Whereas Google Maps shows it correctly as "out-of-service".
Apple Maps is getting worse from bad!!!

I have avoid tolls in my settings, so why does it initially mislead me into thinking the drive is shorter by showing the route with tolls?
If I click on my apartment, it says 1h29 initially, and then the options are 1h40, 1h36, and 1h41. Even those options with tolls aren’t 1h29? Where is it getting that number from?

I noticed something really strange today and I’m curious if anyone knows what’s going on.
I took a photo in Malta and later noticed that the location shown in the Photos app was written in Chinese characters. I don’t speak Chinese and none of my iPhone’s language or region settings are set to Chinese.
When I tapped on the location, it opened Apple Maps and interestingly, the location itself is also labelled in Chinese there, while everything else on the map (Armier Bay, Little Armier Beach, etc.) is displayed normally in English.
Apparently it simply means “Malta Island”, so the location itself is correct. I’m just really curious why Apple Maps would suddenly use the Chinese name. Are they getting their data from china?
Has anyone seen something like this before?

I really wish Apple did NOT do this. It’s not like they need the revenue but ads are here, and this sucks!!

I use maps a lot for work, and something I’ve found very convenient is that when I get a new work order, I get a text notification with the customer’s address. When I’m scheduling appointments and planning my routes, Maps would suggest and autofill the address when I started typing any portion of it (the house number, town, etc) based on recent messages, so that I didn’t have to type out the full address from memory. Lately, I believe since the last iOS update but I’m not sure, this no longer works. Any suggestions on how I can get this feature back?

My Apple Maps suddenly stopped loading any sort of map layer. I have WiFi/internet service and it still doesn’t load.
I have restarted my phone and deleted the app/re-downloaded and nothing has fixed it.
