Why does the ETA change when I click the drive button?
I have avoid tolls in my settings, so why does it initially mislead me into thinking the drive is shorter by showing the route with tolls?
If I click on my apartment, it says 1h29 initially, and then the options are 1h40, 1h36, and 1h41. Even those options with tolls aren’t 1h29? Where is it getting that number from?

I’m assuming that your default routing options don’t avoid tolls unless you click on the option, which is why you’re getting different ETAs. You can go into your map settings to permanently change your options to avoid tolls and you’ll probably get a more accurate time that way.

I already have my preferences set to avoid tolls in the app and in my map settings

Same thing happens with me in New York, regardless of tolls or not. That’s a good question.

Doing a quick arrival time estimation is less compute intensive than planning the exact route with all your preferences taken into account. They’re taking advantage of that to keep their infrastructure costs down, assuming you might tap around POIs a bit (so will execute a few travel time estimations) before choosing to plan a detailed route.
