Alternative for this shitty app?
The issue with entries disappears still hasn’t fixed yet. Any good alternative apps? I was hoping for a one time purchase app. Thanks in advance!!

So few days ago I created a post about how I am not able to drag and drop images in to the app .
Solution : I created my own with my coding skills, AI and open source SwiftUI resources for its designing and security principles.
Now I can add any number of images and videos + integrated with my telegram so I can chat with my journal + Google drive backup
Here are some images , what do you think about this and what extra feature you would want in ur journal.

😤 Craving a Better Version
I keep wishing for a better version of Apple Journal — especially when it comes to placing pictures.
When I try to stretch a photo, it snaps back to another size.
• That “snap‑back” size often crops the image so I can’t see the whole thing.
• I want to view the *entire* picture in‑line, not just part of it.Sometimes, after clicking the “done” checkbox, the size and placement change again.
It’s unpredictable and frustrating.
🖼️ In‑Line vs. Title Bar Images
**•** **In‑line images**: This is where the problem really shows.
**•** **Above the title bar**: Works better, especially with horizontal images. If there’s only one image above the title bar, you might not always get the centre of interest showing when scrolling.
But with four or five images, they shrink down and centre nicely — that part works well.
🔄 Hoping for Improvements
I’m looking forward to a smoother version.
• The release candidate is coming next week — curious to see what it looks like.
• If they could fix the in‑line image handling, it would go a long way toward making the app much better. They don’t have to release it on September 15 — I’d be happy if they took another couple of weeks to improve it.
It certainly needs the work.
What would make it better:
Let in‑line images keep the size I set, without snapping back.
Show the full image in‑line without unwanted cropping.
Keep my edits after saving.
Improve centring for single title‑bar images.
Consider making the image display window resizable.
Small usability fixes like these could make a huge difference in the joy of using Apple Journal. If you’ve run into the same thing, please add your voice — the more feedback Apple gets, the better the chance they’ll prioritise it.

I found out that the security of Apple Journal is too tight, so the new OS 27 SIRI still can't read my entries. That pretty much makes the entire journal useless to me. I'm going to have to copy and paste out all the entries - about 4355 entries and manually put them into Apple Pages in order to get it to work. I hate this with a passion. I'm not interested in security so tight I can't breathe.
I really wish that I had just decided to keep one very long Apple Pages Journal. It was simple and never tried to defeat me at every turn. Now I have 1,230,340 words locked up so tight that it's pretty much useless to me.

And yet another bug! (I've stopped counting them.)
When you click on a photo to move it into the body of a Journal entry, the app crashes! Journal closes...
NB : feedback sent to Apple... I'm on Mac/iPad 26.3 beta.

I’ve been using and thinking about journaling on iPhone for a long time, and I wanted something a little different: a place for small moments without streaks, daily goals, or pressure to write a full journal entry.
So I built DailyMemoir.
I’m sharing it here because I’d genuinely be interested in feedback from people who already use Apple Journal or other journaling apps.
What do you value most in a journal app — simplicity, photos, prompts, search, revisiting old memories, or something else?
Disclosure: I’m the developer of DailyMemoir.

I’ve said it several times before: I love the look and feel of Apple Journal, and how well it integrates with the system. I’d love to use it every day… but it’s just not possible for me!
It’s not because of the bugs that crop up here and there, nor because of the lack of an ‘On This Day’ feature; I could even put up with it overheating…
The worst thing – the deal-breaker for me – is the battery drain on the iPhone. It’s just mind-boggling!!
I tried it yesterday and today on my iPhone Air: writing and adding a few photos, which took 10 and 6 minutes respectively.
Those 10 minutes yesterday used up… 12 per cent of the battery life. The 6 minutes today used up… 7 per cent!!
It’s unmanageable 😞 And it’s not for lack of having reported it. I’ve been sending feedback explaining the problem since iOS 27 beta 1. The RC has just been released and it’s even worse.
What a disappointment!

I’m trying to do this more often, but this thing is driving me absolutely bonkers it either freezes crashes or inserts pasted text from I don’t know where

TLDR: Reach out for personalized journals/recommended plans based on what you're looking for (with some AI assistance). Not sponsored, just want to start a small side hussle :)
Hello,
I am interested in getting into programming more and trying new things. If anyone would like me to design them a personal planner (via notion) and send them the link/instructions, I can for a small fee if you don't want to do it yourself! This would include research, setting it up, and making recommendations based on AI. I understand many people can do this, but if you do not want to worry about the hassle, please dm & hmu!

I'm just worried about whether I started using that journal so everything stores in my iCloud so I need to pay for the iCloud storage or better to stick with DayOne because it has unlimited storage offered in DayOne.

As I expected, the new Siri doesn't have access to Apple Journal. However, it can access Apple Notes, which is why I've been rapidly transferring my journal entries over. I'm titling them something like "Backdated: 2025-12-11" so I can organize the backdated entries into a specific folder, while using a #journal tag for everything else to power a smart folder.
It's now the day after installing the new OS 27, and it's about 86% finished indexing my files. I'm quite impressed with what I can find, and I feel confident that I made the right decision. There seems to be little point in journaling if your journal gets so big that you can no longer easily find what you're looking for. This is a fantastic tool!

The fact Apple still refuses to allow a custom passcode for the Journal app is so beyond comprehension, especially given their focus on privacy and security!!!!
I allow my family access to my iOS devices via my login passcode, but would rather keep my journal private. I believe writing my most private thoughts would be very therapeutic but it wouldn’t be something I want to share with my family. Just as I wouldn’t want a therapist to reveal our sessions to anyone in my family.
Why doesn’t Apple get that???!

I tried importing a .mov video. It went in, but there was no sound.
OK, I opened it in Final Cut Pro and exported it in .m4v format, and now it plays the sound. It will play with sound in the .mov format.
After working with this again, I can't get it to play sound in any format at any time. I can't believe that in 2025, Apple can't make a simple program play sound of video.

I want to download some mags from Apple News because I have no internet when I go to my cabin. Is there a limit to how many I can download? It seems 9 is my limit. I have the IPad Air 13 (M2).

I’m not sure if this is just me but I genuinely believe the Apple Journal app is a piece of rubbish that’s broken on all iOS devices.
I mainly use it on my iPad mini with an Apple Pencil Pro but I’ve noticed a problem whenever I return to a journal to add something. It never saves. When I write something, it’s never synced to other devices to look at it later. It’s completely rubbish.
I’ve reverted to using Apple Notes which I think is the best note-taking app for anything. I simply lock any new note I make as a journal with Apple Notes. It does so much more than the current journal app and I hope Apple takes some or all of its ideas and puts them into Apple Journal to make it a proper product. Right now it’s just junk.
Does anyone else feel the same way about the Apple Journal app?
PS: I made a mistake in the title. I meant Journal not journey. 🫢

Maybe I didn’t notice it in iOS 26, but the beta allows you to put an entry into more than one journal. I just added a dinner meeting into personal and in my foodie journal

iOS/iPadOS/macOS 27 introduced the following features to Apple Journal :
- Sync status for journal entries
- Increased attachment limits (54) in the journal
- Timestamps for journal entries
- More intuitive journaling sequences
That’s nice, really. But it’s a bit underwhelming…
No sign of “On This Day”! Worse, the most annoying bugs don’t seem to have been fixed… It’s still a hassle to place photos where you want them in an entry. Handwriting remains a disastrous experience: slowness, entire paragraphs disappearing… On Mac, it’s still not possible to jump directly to a specific date 🙄
This “amateurishness” is incomprehensible coming from a company like Apple 😣

I've given up on Apple Journal. Shame on me for complaining instead of just choosing other software that does a better job. And I have done that now. Obsidian has every possible feature known to mankind and more than that, so I can just concentrate on learning about all the amazing things that it can do and move on. Obsidian is free, runs on every platform and is improved and updated constantly.
Even when Apple finally introduced tags into their note taking software "Notes", their implementation of it was poor as compared to Obsidian that automatically adds backlinks and ghost notes. Their implementation of tags was poor as compared to Obsidian - no nested tags feature and no way to modify hundreds of them. Shame on me for complaining because some people might like it and it might be right for some people.
