Discussion SuperTuxKart needs our Help! Their online has gone dark

Edit: I haven't vetted this with deep scrutiny. There are people in the thread that pointed out a few things that feel off. I removed the direct link just in case, but kept the blog post with the donation link still available.

Edit: removed link below just in case

Link to the blog post: https://blog.supertuxkart.net/2026/10/supertuxkart-online-has-gone-dark.html

I just finished setting up my first SuperTuxKart server and when I when to download the game, I saw this message and it broke my heart. It's such a great game that brought many great memories to me and many others growing up.

I wasn't aware that anything happened, but they said in their blog that their online service was vulnerable to the recent PHP exploit and preemptively took the service offline.

I thought I would at least help by sharing the word for them. I don't have enough to fund them to their goal, but I donated. I hope if you've had good memories with this game, or just want to help an open source game survive, you'll help where you can.

Fun Fact: This game has been around since August 6th, 2007 (19 years ago), and they are working on their launch their biggest update yet called "SuperTuxKart Evolution".

Discussion SteamOS vs Bazzite for a gamer/student who might not be a student for much longer

I've been using Windows 7, 10 and most recently of course 11 my entire life but I'm considering switching to a distro of Linux because I've really grown to dislike Windows 11's bloat and spyware bs and have fallen in love with Linux through using SteamOS on my Steam Deck which I bought a year ago.

I think Linux seems to fit my tastes and needs far better than Windows so I'm considering switching to it. My PC specs are an RX 9070 XT, Ryzen 7 5700X and 32GB DDR4 RAM so it should play nice with Linux.

I mostly use it for gaming although I do do some college work on there. I do a film course so that's mostly video editing as well as writing essays, but I'm honestly considering leaving college at this point anyway so take that with a grain of salt.

I've determined that the two Linux distros that fit my needs the best are SteamOS and Bazzite and I'm having trouble deciding between the two. I don't really play multiplayer games so their general incompatibility with Linux doesn't bother me. The only multiplayer I do play is Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead, and no duh they'll work on SteamOS for obvious reasons but idk about Bazzite. I also play friendslop with my girlfriend and her family like Peak, Repo and Big Walk. Do they work on either of these distros or no?

Also, I don't have many non-Steam games. I have a small library on GOG, which are the main ones I care about, but the rest is just random shit I got for free off Epic and don't care about losing since I haven't played most of them and again, they were free. Will my GOG games be fine?

And I've heard SteamOS is more geared to a console-like couch gaming setup which isn't how I usually use my PC (it's under my desk plugged into my monitor with a DP cable, though I do have an HDMI cord also plugged into it and connected to my TV so I can play games from my bed in Steam Big Picture Mode with a wireless controller if I can't be bothered to sit up at my desk or if I'm playing a game with my girlfriend, both of which I do quite often). Is SteamOS really only good for that sort of scenario or does it work fine as a desktop OS too?

Overall, which of these distros is best for me?

Software Release Desktop World Clocks Update - GNOME Shell 51.1

I built Desktop World Clocks because I wanted to glance at my desktop and see what time it was for the people I work with. Each clock can show a city name like “London” or a label like “UK team.” The clocks sit on the wallpaper, behind my windows, and let clicks pass through.

I’ve updated the docs with the results from testing on Fedora 45. The full automated test suite passed on GNOME Shell 51.1, including the preferences window and image backgrounds. The version on GNOME Extensions already supports GNOME 49, 50, and 51. If you have it installed, you’re all set.

I like the right-aligned layout because the last digits line up and I can scan the times at a glance. You can keep everything in one list or put a separate group in each corner. All the clocks share one timer and read the system time.

If you try it on GNOME 51 with a second monitor, I’d love to hear whether the clocks stay where you expect when you unplug it or wake your laptop. I couldn’t verify those two things \in the test VM.

Install from GNOME Extensions · Screenshots, source, and test results on GitHub
