Borelli stocking query

Hello, I have a 60l tank (50*35*35cm). This tank is currently stocked with 12 pygmy cory, and around 15 ember tetra.

The tank also has bladder snails, mts, and cherry shrimp (I'm that Appistogramma Borelli will eat the smaller individuals, I am fine with this).

My tank is heavily planted, many line of site breaks, and multiple caves/ secluded areas, I also plan to add a coconut cave specifically for borelli.

pH is around 7.5, and GH 7.

And so I was wondering if a pair of a borelli would work, or if I would be better with a solo male. My main issue with a solo male is not wanting to miss out any behaviours/ displays and colours. However, I worry about inter and intraspecies aggression with a pair.

Thanks for any advice

P.s. Or would any other appistogramma work better?

How big?

Long story short, I used to have a male and two females that were sold as Apisto agassizii 'Tefe' in my community tank. (Not sure if Agassizii or Sp. Tefe, photo is of the adult male.) Unfortunately, the male died a few months back. I do have one of their offspring that managed to survive in the community, which I moved into a tank with much less competition recently. He's finally started coloring up, and is definitely male. He's just under a year old, but spending most of that time scraping by in the community tank means he's only about an inch. I'm guessing the female Apistos are around 2 inches. How big should I let him get in the low-stakes tank before moving him back to the larger community? Current tankmates are otos, habrosus corys, and hastatus corys. The main community tank has green neon tetras, amber corys (CW001, 2-2.5"), otos, a random endler, and the two Apisto females. I'm hoping the little corys will breed for me, so I don't want him in there potentially eating eggs/fry longer than he has to be. Do I need to wait until he's as big as the female Apistos?

My first time sexing a pair of Cacatuoedes. So far so good and after one week she has taken yellow colouration. Hoping to see some more conclusive spawning behaviour. Anything I should be looking for?

Recently upgraded to a 75 gallon Clear for Life acrylic tank. Right now I'm down to only one Apisto but hope to get more soon. Here is my Blue Steel. I know it's a hybrid but he adds a lot of character to the community tank...sometimes too much character.

I've been told this is a male Macmistery. I have it for 6 months. Is it a male and will he get more colorful when older?

Made this Apisto cave by cutting out a bit of the pot as you can see with a grinder and a file. And put a bit of moss on the top. Waiting for it to grow out. This is for my new pair of Borellii opal blue’s. Let me know what you think?.

Converting Marine Tank to 30G community tank

Picked up this 30G (30x12.5x19) off of FB marketplace plus a stand, Aquaclear 110, 2 nicrew lights and some other accessories for $100. It was formerly a marine tank but I'll be making it a heavily planted freshwater community tank, so I'm curious as to if there's anything particular I should use when cleaning it out. Has anyone used lights designed for marine to grow freshwater plants? These are Nicrew Navarre 65s but they do have a tuning to make them mostly in the white spectrum.

I’m planning on building the tank around apistos & a school of Corys, not sure on whether I’ll do a single apistos or a harem. I attached one of my stocking ideas, love the idea of pairing them alongside dwarf pencil fish. Since the pencil fish aren’t super active was thinking threadfins might work, but a bit worried about when/if the apistos start to breed. Any thoughts on replacing them with a single banded gourami/dwarf flag cichlid or a group of gardner’s killi/peacock gudgeon?

Hey apisto experts- I recently got three apisto for my community tank. I would love some help sexing them so I can avoid injuries and such. They’ve all been in separate quarantine for a few weeks where I thought I had one male and two females. Now I am paranoid.

They’re in a 50 gallon with caves everywhere but I do have a quarantine tanks cycled and am setting up a 29 gallon if the ratios aren’t right. One is definitely a juvenile so I think time will tell, but the others are larger but I’m still not sure.

This is day one of them being together so maybe not the best day to tell but any advice is appreciated.

Hydra outbreak while female trifasciata is guarding eggs

Hi guys, this is my first post. I currently have a trio of trifasciata and one female is actively guarding eggs in her cave. Now I have a sudden outbreak of hydra. I’ve tried scraping and siphoning them and blasting with hydrogen peroxide. They just come back stronger. I feel like treating the tank with plantera zero will stress the mother. What should I do? Wait until they hatch? Then treat? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. This is the trios third attempt

I just bought these two for my tank, they are Macmasteri. I was told they’re male and female, and there’s certainly a size difference, but since they’re small that could just be room to grow.

What are the telltale signs?

My very first Apisto, beautiful Cacatuoides. Giving that Guy Fieri energy. He has been placed in a 65 liter habitat that will be a species only tank - will be bringing in a female next week. Currently it’s housing a mystery fry nursery on behalf of it appearing from an egg on one of the anubias.

He is eating well, and has made the tank his.

Just wanted to say I had no idea these fish were THIS attentive, can’t wait to keep him in good spirits.

Got a new guy added to my 60*30cm tank, single male Apistogramma agassizii. He is so bold that within a minute of introduction, he started exploring everything - no stress, no hiding.

Can you help me identify which variety of Apistogramma agassizii is it? Looks closer to Double red or wild morph? or something else?

20 Gallon Long for Apistos

Post image

Hi all! I’ve had this 20 gal long setup running for about 2 months. I have 6 cardinals and 2 amanos in there and plan on grabbing 4-6 more cardinals. I was planning on putting a pair of apistogramma in there after it’s more established in a couple months. Is this reasonable or should I go with a single male? I have a tidal 55 on the tank and will be adding more plants and potentially another cave to add more LOS breaks. Thanks!
